I doubt many of you use this line of thinking, but I figured anything with a 7.5 or higher was worth a blind-ish buy for $3... so here's the full list of MGM World Films with corresponding IMDB score as of April 29.

Babette's Feast - 7.7
The Bride Wore Black - 7.4
Chocolat - 6.8
Camille Claudel - 7.2
Cyrano De Bergerac - 7.5
Darling - 7.2
Eat Drink Man Woman - 7.5
Electra - 7.9
Europa Europa - 7.8
Fanny And Alexander - 8.1
La Femme Nikita - 7.5
Fellini's Roma - 7.3
Fellini's Satyricon - 6.7
Flight Of The Innocent - 7.1
Hey Babu Riba - 7.9
Jesus Of Montreal - 7.3
Leningrad Cowboys Go America - 6.4
Life And Nothing But - 7.6
La Cage Aux Folles (& part 2) - 7.1 & 5.5
La Chamade - 5.9
Live Flesh - 7.4
Manon Of The Spring - 8.0
May Fools - 7.3
My Mother's Castle - 7.5
Mademoiselle - 7.2
The Man Who Loved Women - 7.5
Mississippi Mermaid - 7.0
My Father's Glory - 7.5
Mystery Of Rampo - 6.6
Night Of The Shooting Stars - 7.9
Prisoner Of The Mountains - 7.7
Raise The Red Lantern - 7.9
Rhapsody In August - 7.3
Shame - 8.3
Small Change - 7.5
The Story Of Adele H. - 7.4
To Live - 8.1
A Tale Of Springtime - 7.2
Together - 7.4
Wings Of Desire - 8.1
Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown - 7.5
The Wild Child - 7.6

Just to clarify: No, not all of these films have been spotted at Big Lots. No, I don't know if any more will be added to Big Lots. I'm just trying to help because some (not all, of course) are a little unfamiliar to most of us and may be worth the blind buy. Enjoy.
Thanks for the list. There's still alot on it that I want to get, if BL comes out with them.

I just stopped by my local BL - they had added a lot of hunting videos and bunch of war documentary boxsets. Nothing noteworthy.

I picked up the following at my Big Lots for $3 each:

Coming Home
Jean de Florette
The Howling SE

If you compare what these are going for at Best Buy, I got $40 of DVDs for $9! The kicker is, Jean de Florette is on backorder for $19.99. Ha Ha!

They had Bright Lights, Big City available, but it was only in fullscreen. Was there ever a widescreen version available?

So does DVDPacific.

However, DeepDiscount, Buy.com, cdUniverse, BestPrices and Best Buy are all saying 9/2. Interesting.

yes & no, but mostly yes at this price. I paid $16 for mine & thought I was getting a bargain.

First & 10 was an entertaining HBO 80's sit com. Best known stars are OJ Simpson & Delta Burke. Key here is do you like 80's comedy?

Other then a few episodes, these are unfortunately the edited syndicated versions of the shows.
2 main differences:
1. Nudity (&/or lack of it)
2. A really irritating laugh track has been added to the syndicated episodes.

It's really obvious from watching which episodes are which.

They also went with a really low bit rate & there are some visual artifacts, but again $6.00 is a real bargain for the complete series. To the best of my knowledge, the original unedited version is not available.

I could provide a link to a commercial website with more info, but I don't know if that's against any rules here?

I don't know either, but there's no rule against linking to the DVDTalk review here.

Went to two other BL -- not Spaceballs or Failsafe.
Got:
Like Father Like Son
Lords of Flatbush
Cliffhanger

This has not been mentioned (I don't think), but there are also some Mill Creek titles for $6 like:
Robin Hood 1st season - face cover (it's $5 at Wal-Mart if you can find it).
Sherlock Homes 1st season (picked this up a while ago)
Beverly Hillbillies - 40ep.
Lucy 36 ep.
a couple of Horror compilations with about 20 movies.

Jean de Florette is OOP, but there is a Manon of the Springs/Jean de Florette double feature for like $13

BOUGHT:

THE OMEN CE
THE JACKIE ROBINSON STORY

Yeah, yeah I know Platinum isn't a good company for quality.
But, also bought a Platinum dvd with 8 movies on thier Silver Screen Series:

HOME TOWN STORY - Marilyn Monroe
RAIN - Joan Crawford (already own the Roan Group dvd)
THREE GUYS NAMED MIKE - Jane Wyman (also released by Roan Group)
WHISTLE STOP - Ava Gardner
KING LEAR - Orson Welles
OLIVER TWIST - Irving Pichel
THE PRIVATE LIFE OF HENRY VIII - Charles Laughton (also available by Allied dvd)
THE RISE OF CATHERINE THE GREAT - Douglas Fairbanks Jr.

With the exception of the 2 Roan Group dvds, the others are available by cheap companies. The only title on this dvd that I wanted most is The Private Life of Henry VIII because Laughton won the Oscar for Best Actor.

According to Michael's Movie Mahem it is scheduled for a Widescreen/20th Anniversary Edition to be released on 09/02/2008. Several vendors have it up for pre-order.

Did they replace the theme music on this version of Beverly Hillbillies?

I'm sure they did. The only ones that have the original them music, AFAIK, are the Ulitimate ed. authorized by the Paul Henning estate.

The theme music is indeed replaced but with a similar blue-grass that isn't too distracting. The actual music in the show is still there(as far as I can tell) and overall, for $7.50 out the door, it's a lot of hillbilly fun. I will eventually pick up the authorized version but this was a nice way to tide me over and not have to deal with the schedule and commercials of tvland.
