Also saw Animal House in the house packaging there as well as Forrest Gump in a chocolate box-type packaging too.

Re: DVDs at Ross - Dress for Less!

I took these pics about a week ago at the store in Morrow GA so have no idea if they are left...sounds like what has already been mentioned. It's funny, I don't recall seeing any of those box sets in stores...but then again, who besides say, Best Buy would have bigger box sets???

How cool is it that my camera phone can take a picture that's blurry at the top, but in focus in the middle?

Note that both of the Flynn boxes I saw had slits in the packaging. One was across the spine of the box, a straight razor cut on the box. The other was on the opposite side from the spine where the DVDs face out which caused tears in the spine of every single DVD in the box. Not good, but the former was preferable in that it just caused a tiny tear on the box itself and not each DVD.

First Big Lots and now Ross raising prices, but some good stuff nonetheless.
As far as raising prices, imo Oldies.com is the worst offender; while they have some good titles it's probably been a year since I've bought from them.

Re: DVDs at Ross - Dress for Less!

Just saw the 4 disc Special Edition of Blade Runner at the Ward Avenue (Honolulu) Ross for $9.99, which seemed like a good deal...I haven't checked this price against Deep Discount, Amazon, etc. so it may not be such a fantastic bargain unless getting it right now is important to you.

Ross seems to be getting out of the DVD/Bluray business...I see fewer discs there now than ever before, and the choices they do have are usually things I either already have or would never want.

Re: DVDs at Ross - Dress for Less!

$9.99 would be a good price for the 4 disc Blade Runner set IF it had not been offered recently on Amazon for a few pennies shy of six bucks.

Re: DVDs at Ross - Dress for Less!

Hit the local Ross again. 2 new titles: Swamp Thing (some season) for $4.99 & the Best Buy Police cd/dvd box Set for $6.99. Still had 2 Sinatra boxes, 1 Blade Runner, 1 Animal Hiuse & little else. The rack is now all but hidden & only 1 side has any product.

True. However, I checked after I read your post and discovered it's currently selling for $11.17. So I popped in and got it for $9.99, and a warm feeling of contentment settled over me as I reflected on how many times I've agonized over whether or not to get something that was a bargain and didn't do it.

Re: DVDs at Ross - Dress for Less!

I went into my Ross a few days ago for the first time in... I can't remember... probably Christmas, and the DVD rack was completely gone. I asked the security person where they moved the DVDs and they said they are all gone but a few of the last ones were sitting on a shelf near the registers. Sure enough there were about 5 titles left, none of which really interested me. I was tempted on the Rock Hudson Screen Legend Collection for $7.99, but even though I liked some of his movies I wasn't familiar with any in the set.

So, it's further evidence that Ross appears to be getting out of the movie business. I expect if they got an awesome deal on some movies, they'd carry them again, but I doubt they're actively seeking them. I think there are so many DVDs out there being dumped so cheaply that they (and perhaps Big Lots as well) figure they can't make enough money to make it worthwhile. I know almost any time I go to trade in a DVD at FYE or check trade-in values at Amazon, it's usually only worth $1. Soon it's going to be hard to find much selection of movies at most retailers... it'll just be new/recent releases and a random selection of old titles, sort of like how my Walmart is now. And if you want to get rid of a DVD that's not a recent release, forget about getting much for it. You might as well just put them out for $1 each at a garage sale. Further reason to avoid buying DVDs unless they are dirt cheap (under $5).

Re: DVDs at Ross - Dress for Less!

Stopped by at the local Ross. Still very small selection, but a few new titles:

Deleted BB exclusives of Timberlake & Aguilera to join the Petty & Stones; & of more interest a 5 film (6 disc) Brando box @ $14.99 (though it's cheaper on Amazon, it has a $60 list price)

Re: DVDs at Ross - Dress for Less!

I also saw Perfect Strangers at my local Ross, but was also dumbfounded to encounter Season 1 of - JOEY, the perennial punching bag series at BL before Twin Peaks Season 2 came along. 9.99 for all the wrong reasons.
