Looking for: Tartan Asia Extreme titles, anywhere have them at good prices?
I've recently gotten into them, but I've been dumb enough to be renting them instead of buying. They're all so good, and now I want to own them. Know anywhere cheap?

I picked up a couple of them through Columbia House. A quick browse through their site and I see Oldboy, Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, Face, Spider Forest, Ab-Normal Beauty, Three: Extremes and A Tale Of Two Sisters.
I don't know if they're available as enrollment selections. But if you're already a member, the prices are pretty good if you use a Buy 1 Get 1 code (about $11 each). You can probably find more info in the DVD Clubs section: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=13

Yeah, they are enrollment titles.
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...ghlight=tartan I found this topic before actually, but was reluctant to sign up for a club so I posted here. Maybe I'll just do it, I'm gonna buy a lot anyhow. I'll read the faq/guide closer this time, hopefully I'll get it right. |

Circuit City tends to carry them for $10-$13 each in store but inventory is spotty - for some reason the CC website is usually much higher priced. I've also noticed across the board(?) price-cuts on their older releases which makes for a good combo with DDD's bi-annual 20% sale.

You can also look into buying the Asian releases directly from places like YesAsia.com or CD-WOW, etc - some of them are much cheaper than the Tartan release (but many are not) - e.g. I picked up the R0 Ab-normal Beauty DTS for ~$7 shipped a while back.

If you have a Sam Goody / Suncoast in your area that's going out of business, you might want to check there. They're the same conglomerate as Media Play, and I got several Tartan films at good prices during their going out of business blowout.

I've found some good ones buried at Circuit City for $12 and one or two (surprisingly) at Wal*Mart.

I picked up Sympathy from Circuit City for $12.99 or $13.99, but I couldn't find R-Point (should be the same price). They seem to be very few and far between, but when you can find 'em, they're ususally for decent prices.
Last year, Amazon had a great sale around Halloween with many Tartan titles. I picked up Oldboy for $7.50 (AWESOME) and Samaritan Girl for $11.99, I believe? I remember the 2-disc of A Tale of Two Sisters being $7.50 as well, but I already owned it myself from winning it in a contest. Hope that helps. I know it's a long time before Halloween, so I'd suggest checking out your local Circuit City.

1. Use code C7L when you enroll on the site(there are plenty of other codes that you can use that gives you the same offer-I've had great success with the C7L code). You'll get 6 DVDs for $2.94 with free shipping. Take a 7th for $9.95 with free shipping and you'll lower your obligation by 1. In total, you'll get 7 DVDs for $12.89 with 2 to buy in 2 years to fulfill your obligation. 2. When you decide to fulfill, sign on at columbiahouse.com/webdvd and you will get an additional $5 off of your first order of $30 or more. 3. Wait until there is a Buy One Get One Free code with free shipping to fulfill. These codes have been popping up fairly frequently as of late(check the better offer thread in the DVD Clubs forum for all current codes). 4. When you fulfill, you can take 2 pre-orders for $19.95 each and then take two other movies for free(the free movies cannot be pre-orders or box sets). Even though the $5 web coupon will be deducted from one of the $19.95 titles, it will still count as one towards your obligation. 5. Final breakdown-7 movies for $12.89/4 movies for $34.90/total of $47.79 for 11 movies(average of $4.35 per movie). Hopefully you live in a state where CH doesn't charge tax to even better the deal. ![]() Besides the titles already mentioned, CH also carries Phone, Tetsuo-the Iron Man, Doppelganger, Sorum and a few others. Check out the DVD Clubs forum for even more details. ![]() |

I'd also check your local used dvd stores - for some reason, at least in my area, they show up constantly in the used bins. I've bought many this way, usually for 6.99 to 8.99
I also think DDD is the way to go - they seem to end up being priced around $11.95 or so during the 20% off sales, which is how I've picked up some of the more obscure ones that I didn't think would ever end up in the used stores.

MovieExchange mentioned the Suncoast/Sam Goody stores, that's a big YMMV but it's how I got my copies of OLDBOY, A Tale of Two Sisters, and Tetsuo: The Iron Man...and I remember seeing several other titles. Of course, a lot of those stores have already closed or are down to a few Motley Crue t-shirts and a few dozen Seinfeld / Cosby Show season sets...

Sweet Baby James, I can't get the code to work. I've checked the CH FAQ's but I can't get those codes to work either. The CH site just keeps bringing me to a 5 for $0.49 with a 6th for $14.95 and a 7th for $9.95. Am I doing it wrong?

I second the CH idea (I've had 27 accounts so far). But if you still have a Suncoast/Sam Goody that is closing, but hasn't closed yet, you may still find some bargains there. As for other B&M stores, I happened to notice that several Tartan Asia Extreme titles are 12.99 each at my local Circuit City (YMMV of course, but you could probably give them a call before wasting gas)
