I'll say this... I hate the ADV slasher, and many people have had problems ordering from them during this "sale": but that price for the Nadesico collection brick is a steal, even if they ship the disks without the case in paper envelopes.
edit: in my defense, it was only 10 bucks for the whole series when I first posted. Since then, they've raised it to 30, so no deal. The ADV sale does come with major caveats, as have been detailed in other threads, and the disclaimer should be enough to scare most people away. The slashed barcodes didn't bother me as much as the fact that they didn't tell me when I first ordered about it, but everything I bought from them were more 2nd tier series that I didn't really care much about the packaging, I just wanted to watch for a cheap price. Plus, badmouth ADV all you want, but chances are as an anime fan you're picking something up from them... they do tend to have the lowest online prices, especially at DDD, and license tons of series, though from recent reports it looks like they'll be slowing down a little and even offering some series only online (luckily, they won't be handling distribution solely but will allow online retailers to sell their stuff) Last edited by fujishig; 04-04-05 at 06:17 PM. |

I ordered almost $250 worth of DVDs the first time around, and they came with nice neat slits throught the UPC codes. I was miffed, but didn't think it was worth raising a stink about. I won't be ordering form them again though. They would have gotten another $100 from me this time around, except I don't want to risk getting mangled DVDs.
Does anyone else find it odd that they are paying an employee money to mar their products and drive customers away. Sounds like a great business plan to me!

Most of the stuff in the ADV sales are merchant returns - i.e. stuff that just sat on the shelf too long so the merchant returned it to their distributor for full credit. ADV appears to think that the items from their sales could end up being returned to merchants (or even purchased outright by merchants) who would then return them back to their distributor for credit based on the full-price.
What is stupid about their slasher policy is that anyone going for the return angle won't really make much of a dent unless they buy and return large quantities, almost certainly multiple copies of the same titles. So, if they simply adopted the policy of only slashing the barcode of copies past the first, then they would still protect themselves from the majority of such fraud while not pissing off their actual customers who will rarely, if ever, buy multiple copies. |

It's more than just the slashing. They will charge you for the entire order regardless of whether you get a single item.
So, if they are OOS of your $200 order, they will charge you $200, and you have to ASK for your money back. I got a refund of my missing items WITHOUT shipping charges. Rip-off artists. |

Yeah, ADV's level of professionalism and customer service pretty much sucks donkey penile implants, they are only the second DVD store I've vowed never to do business with again (the first being dvdsoon) in over six years of DVD buying.

The ADV sales have proven to be anti-deals in sheeps clothing for enough people that ADV deserves a public rebuttal each time they run a new one. Would not want to mislead the uninformed anime DVD dealseeker. If a ton of people pile on, that is just stronger evidence that ADV's problems are real and not the imagination of one or two disgruntled customers.

All of ADV's dvds which I order from DDD or another good place are all in imaculate condition. So I'm sure they have great protection when shipping to dealers. But when they sell directly to a customer, you are getting crap.
I am extremly picky. And I wasted $70 of Arc the Lad, Dirty Pair flash, and Kaleido 1 + Box due to their UPC slashing maniacs on their last sale. Mine actually turned out not as bad as others. But still, a slashed UPC is enough to get on my nerves. |
