LOTR Extended Trilogy Slipcase $3.00 on 12/14

Starting on 12/14 you can get a slipcase for the LOTR Trilogy Extended Editions for only $3.00 shipping.

Here's the web address: http://www.lotrdvdbox.com

One case per address.

Shap 12-11-04 01:20 PM

Though technically the title is accurate, it is very misleading :P

fumanstan 12-11-04 01:25 PM

Saw this mentioned in the LOTR thread in the main forum. I think its great  I know i'll probably get one, although i'm curious to know how they'll be shipped. The material would have to be the same, if not slightly tougher then what the EE's already come in. I'd hate to imagine having to fold it together yourself, while a pre-folded one would be more of a pain to ship out. Luckily, New Line hasn't been one to cut costs with the LOTR series, so i'm hopeful.

Snowmaker 12-11-04 01:33 PM

I'll have to get one. The shrink wrap isn't holding up too well on my current two.

Dutin 12-11-04 01:34 PM

Thanks for the info!

Artman 12-11-04 01:48 PM

I'll see what the box looks like on tues, and decide if I want it or not.

Myster X 12-11-04 01:53 PM

Damn! the title got me going :D

Samuel 12-11-04 02:16 PM

Sorry for the misleading thread title, I see now I should have worded it differently. I'll email a mod to see if it can be changed.

very misleading indeed....i was jumping up and down until i read the thread :(

fallfan 12-11-04 02:59 PM

I'm pretty sure if the thread was refering to the dvds themselves, we would have 5 more pages of people putting orders in, orders being stopped because of the misprice, then people complaining about order cancellations.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll probably order one of those cases.

I remember doing this for the Jurassic Park box that houses the three movies in their original cases and the fourth disc of supplemental material. The box itself came packaged in a thinly padded envelope, was completely flattened, and was in perfect condition. It took a few seconds to "spring open" the box and that was that.

I'm hoping the same for the LOTR box. My only worry is that postal carriers will bang up the corners, nevertheless, it's only three bucks.

This thread may be more suited for DVD Talk or the covers and cases subforum.

I'll be getting one.

jrobinson 12-11-04 04:31 PM

sweet! i'm definitely going to pick this up...

Rammsteinfan 12-11-04 04:46 PM

Yeah, but will the box for the set be the same quality as the EE's? (thick, embossed, etc..)

Geofferson 12-11-04 05:28 PM

Great - I'll pick it up as well.

TylerDurden_73 12-11-04 05:31 PM

I want one too.

MvRojo 12-11-04 05:45 PM

That's cool. I'm glad they're doing this. It's similar to what they did with Jurassic Park when the third film came out.

trigun 12-11-04 05:47 PM

My JP box was destroyed during shipping. It's mailed flat, but was folded in half to fit in the mailbox. I tossed the creased piece of cardboard into the trash.

Half-Joey 12-11-04 05:51 PM

I would pay for it also, if the box looked like that and was the same material as the EE cases.

eau 12-11-04 06:03 PM

It looks good. I'm gonna order one too and place it between the bookmark from FOTR giftset (with the 3 EEs in it, of course). Gollum can stay on the left side and the white city on the right side :D

Yeah, mine was folded a little, but not much. Hopefully, this won't be an issue with the LOTR ones.

My JP box came in perfect condition. But the LOTR-EE box must be way bigger than the JP box and will not fit my mailbox even if folded. I hope the mailman will leave it near my door.....

My house is about 2 blocks from my mailbox (dirt road). I may order it just to see what my mailman will do.

Do they still sell the JP box? I have a box for 1&2 but 3 is sitting out by itself. Not willing to spend more than a couple dollars on it though.

I doubt it is still available since that was a several years ago. I think it was around $6 or so, but it came with an extra DVD that was all bonus features. It basically set you up with the 4-disc trilogy boxset if you had already bought the first two and bought the third one separately.

Dorsalphin 12-11-04 08:18 PM

Just wait until the 4th film comes out.

Who knows... they'll probably offer a box for the 4 movies.

Gilgamesh1082 12-11-04 08:41 PM

I got a box about 8 months ago and here is what it looks like

Engel07 12-11-04 10:43 PM

Excellente...i'll get one.

Considering the flack that all the DVD cover art sites took, I was wondering if Paul Champagne even pays the studios for all the artwork he uses.

kenbenobi 12-12-04 07:27 AM

How do you know that is the same box? Until I see a picture on the site, I'm not getting my hopes up. "Slipcase" could mean a thin cardboard piece of crap.
And how do you know it is $3? That link doesn't say anything about the price. And it seems strange that you can't order the box now. But I'll check back on Tuesday to see if they have a picture. I'm pretty skeptical about the whole thing tho...

Included with all ROTK EE DVDs is a little flyer advertising the offer, stating that it's $3.00 for shipping and handling. Also that the offer is only good through March 31, 2005 or while supplies last.

DJ_Longfellow 12-12-04 12:03 PM

I may do it for $3....unless it's like $7 to ship it. Although, I may like the look of all three "books" together.

Centurion 12-12-04 12:20 PM

The second picture looks pretty cool.
I still prefer the actual slipcase though because it looks more in line with the 3 boxes of the individual movies.

By the way, nice change of title for this thread.
It's a little more clear of the contents of this thread.

Um, according to the post right above yours the price appears to be $3 shipped.

CrashNBurn69 12-12-04 04:48 PM

that picture is a paul champagne box. theyre pretty expensive. thats is not what will be offered for those of you who are confused.

Quack 12-12-04 05:36 PM

I'll have to see it before making up my mind.

DVD's won't exist by then! It'll just be a microchip that you stick on your forehead, and the entire movie plays in your brain in a nanosecond... The box for that will barely be half an inch long...

dcloye 12-12-04 10:35 PM

Keepcase (Probably) matches EE Trilogy box

I got my copy of LOTR RotK on Saturday (love them pre-orders!)
(BTW, I LLLLLUUUUUVVVE the movie!!!! - "the Mouth of Sauron" is worth the price by itself!!!)

ANYWAY, The flyer that comes with the Extended edition that describes the "premium slipcase" shows a picture of a box that matches the slipcase that comes with the extended edition combined trilogy set. See:

However, the flyer ALSO sez: "Artwork Subject to Change".
We just have to wait until Tuesday for the website to officially open:

Lucky dude to get it so quick. Hopefully Amazon will ship my order before christmas. They always ship the free super saver items a couple of weeks after release.

Does the flyer say anything about the form of payment? Do they charge a credit card or do we have to send in a check?
