$9.99 special at FYE

I didn't see this posted anywhere, so I thought I'd let everyone know that FYE has a special where any DVD priced at $14.99 or $15.99 is discounted to $9.99.

I just happened to wander in this afternoon and found Orca Killer Whale. The sticker was $15.99 (overpriced, of course) but thanks to the discount it only cost me $9.99, which is about what it should be.

An aside, this was the first time I've seen Orca in any store. I couldn't find it anywhere when it was released recently.

I saw the sale this weekend but most of their 14.99 and 15.99 titles are usually 9.99 other places.

They did have a special (atleast on Saturday) if you spend 25.00 or more on your receipt, then you can bring it back between 11/1 and 11/20 and you get 10.00 off anything. Not to bad with the rebate titles.

Eh, I don't like the idea of buying used DVDs. Heck, in the year and a half since I got my first player, I haven't even rented a DVD yet. I don't really know why.

Yeah, FYE is almost always overpriced, and you can get DVDs for less elsewhere. Except when you can't find it anywhere else - such as my case with Orca. I checked around everywhere on its release date - BB, CC, Target, even Kmart - and couldn't find it. The fact I found it today was a complete accident. I had kinda given up on even getting it at all. It wasn't necessarily a "must have" for me, just an old sentimental favorite.

I think I've seen Orca the killer whale for either 12.99 or 14.99 at Borders a day or so ago.

I saw it at my K-Mart for $9.99 several weeks ago but couldn't make up mind to buy it. I might get it today, i'm heading back to pick up The Creature From The Black Lagoon Legacy Collection.

Picked up "City of God" for $9.99, sight unseen. Hope it's as good as they say. I'm not worried...

How did you get it for $9.99? Its regular price is over $20.

This is only supposed to work for DVDs regularly priced at $14.99 or $15.99.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the store I found it in had a used copy for $15.99, so it qualified for the big sale.

I've noticed that FYE used prices seem to be uniform from store to store, so if you manage to find a used copy, I would think that it would be the same price.

At this point, prices for used dvds are falling rapidly. $15 is very high. I wouldn't touch it.

YMMV: Remember for every $25 you spend, you get $10 off on any purchase in November. I just got back from there and spent $80+ on the following:

Ren and Stimpy: $29.99 ($7 rebate)
Van Helsing $19.99 ($5 rebate)
Pee Wee's X-Mas $10.99 ($5 rebate)
CD $13.99 (over paid vs Best Buy by $2)

I used my gift cards from the previous deal (buy $50 gift cards and get $10 gift card free). Plus, the above items have $17 in rebates. Since I spent $80, I get $30 off any purchase in November.

Great time to buy from FYE.

Ron

PS: My local FYE stopped price matching ads. They suspended the practice after some "tool" made a issue out of it every week. So manager said no more. He did say they may resume during the holiday season.

All FYE stores consider the used price as a "regular" non-sale price. Thus, all used titles priced at either 14.99 or 15.99 qualify.

Huh? So somebody wanted them to honor their published policies and rewarded them by spending his money there every week and so they canceled the policy? That sounds like good business to me.
