Fry's Ads 9/17-21

Here's the entertainment software listings from the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Los Angeles/Orange County (LA), San Jose/Silicon Valley (SJ), and Washington state (WA) Fry's Ad(s). These prices are valid only for the dates listed in the subject line.

The items listed below are as they appear in the Fry's Ads. If an item is listed as "SJ only", for example, it could still be on sale at other locations (i.e. - San Diego, Sacramento, Austin, Houston, NV, AZ, OR, IL, GA), but it only appeared in the SJ ad. We have noticed that the Dallas Morning News and SJ Mercury News often run very similar ads. Also, the Chicago ads are often similar to the Seattle ads. However, since these ads are not available online, I cannot confirm them.

If anyone knows of a website to view any further ads, please let me know.

fidodido. Fable is still 34.99 in the San Jose Fry's ads. They may have priced it differently in other regions. The same goes for Sims 2. $34.99. Thanks again for posting the ads every week.

Fry's upped their Fable price by 2 bucks in one day (it was 36.99 in yesterday's ad). Anyone know why they have SO many ads, pretty much one every other day?

I think they just opened a Fry's in Atlanta in recent weeks (tried to confirm on their web site, but it wasn't much help). From what my brother in L.A. tells me and what I've seen here, it's an exciting place. Are there any ads for the Atlanta location?

The ads are often in the AJC. As for the location, it's up on exit 104 off I-85, which is Pleasant Hill Road. It's right by Gwinett Mall.

Aside from the opening weekend, I would have to say the DVD deals at the Gwinett Fry's have been very underwhelming.

Sale prices run from Friday thru Tuesday and Weds thru Thursday. So, technically, any prices from yesterday's ad would no longer apply today.

BTW, someone on CAG has reported that they picked up Fable this morning in LA (Manhattan Beach) and it rang up at yesterday's $36.99 price.

As for why they run so many ads...well, I have to go back to the old argument...sure seems to work well. They keep me coming back.

I was happy to see the $36.99 SW price. I want to pricematch at Best Buy and get the free magazine plus the handful of Reward Zone points. However, on a release like this I don't trust Best Buy to have enough widescreen copies. Therefore, I feel like I should probably go to Walmart early in the morning and pricematch. Then if I'm able to get it at Best Buy I'll return my unopened Walmart one.

The problem with this seems to be that stores are now confiscating the ad whenever I pricematch because they don't want you to be able to go anywhere else and pricematch.

Are other people having problems with Best Buy and Walmart tearing pricematch ads apart so you can't re-use them? Last time I told them I needed the ad and they said they had to take the entire page or they wouldn't give me the pricematch. I don't remember seeing "all ads will be confiscated" as part of the pricematch policy.

I only do this on certain releases because stores in my area often can't be trusted to get enough in stock. It's a problem when you live in an area which last I heard has half a million people in a 3 mile radius of the store. I doubt my Walmart and Best Buy will have a half million copies in stock case everyone decided to get one on Tuesday.

Ah, but if not for this board (and the fact that I've been getting the daily newspaper for free lately), I'd never know what's on sale. Some Fry's post the ads at the front of the store, but inexplicably some do not, and there were times when I could never tell what was on sale. Most of the time, when I go to the videogame or DVD sections, i still can't tell what's on sale unless I know specifically what to ask for. It's a mess I tell you...

It was actually Wednesday's ad that had the price, but the game didn't come out until Thursday, so you had a one day window to get the game at that price. They also had that price in last Sunday's ad, which expired on Tuesday but explicitly stated that the game was going to come out on Thursday. Which is another reason I get so confused.

And milo, the price may vary in the Chicago store. You can see above that even from San Jose to LA there are different prices. Get the Sunday paper, and there should be an ad for it prominently there. It's unusual for them to advertise something this far in advance, but it is Star Wars, after all.

I still dont get this. Why if your going to get up early anyway, instead of hassling the PM at walmart, just buy it at fry's? I can see best buy if you have reward zone, but in general, i see a lot of people doing a lot of useless PMing. You figure, the Frys or whatever has to be close enough for best buy or walmart to consider them a competitor, so i cant see why you wouldnt just buy it at a place that offers the best price the first time.

Is it the thrill of the hunt to get a successful PM? Maybe if people supported the places that give the good prices, we will see more good prices. Also, all this needless PM's is probably why a lot of places are clamping down and doing stupid stuff like ripping up adds. If they dont offer good prices to begin with, they shouldnt deserve your time, PM or not.

You think Wal-Mart is going to have more Widescreen copies than Best Buy? What magical Wal-Mart store do you have that actually stocks that more than 2 or 3 widescreen copies of a title?!?!?!

Also, that price for Star Wars is good Tuesday only, which I guess is why they put it in Friday's ad.

As for price matching, remember that there are 6 Fry's locations in LA/OC. This is a one day only price. Some people don't live close enough to one of these locations to make it worth their while to go there, especially in So Cal traffic. I'm lucky because I live closer to Fry's than I do CC, Best Buy, or Wal-Mart, but each of those stores have a lot more locations.

Finally, a tip. I can't say this will always work, but it did work for me at Best Buy for Star Trek Season One. Print out a copy of the Fry's ad from the OC Register web site (if you live in the So Cal area obviously). I brought in this printed copy of the ad when I PM'd for Star Trek, and they took it at the Fullerton Store no problems.

For Star Wars, I printed out the first page of the ad, and then a close up Star Wars ad. I don't know if I'll be PMing, or just getting it at Fry's, but I'm prepared for either case.

Might i recommend the OC Register's online ad site?
