Hollywood Video - Movie Value Pass
i just got an email from Holloywood video regarding their "Movie Value Pass" plan. it is $9.99 a month for the first 3 months.
here is the tricky part...
When you purchase the Movie Value Pass, you'll get MOST New Release rentals and ALL Hollywood Film LibraryŽ rentals FREE. MOST new releases?
it also doesnt tell you how many movies you can have out at a time. does anyone know??? and what is the percentage of movies NOT AVAILABLE as free? i have a feeling it is most of them, otherwise it sounds like a pretty sweet deal.
if anyone wants to know, games are excluded.

3 movies at a time. Almost all new new releases are excluded. It may vary from store to store how often they move the really new releases into the free zone. It seemed a little random at the store that I enrolled in.
Still, $10 a month is worth at least one month for me. It's a good way to catch up on older product.

This is a great deal. At first, I only thought that I would do one month but now it is looking like I may take advantage of all 3 months at $9.99. They have outdone Blockbuster.

Oddly, I picked up a flyer for this at the store near my job and it had the 3-month promo price at $7.99!! Anyone else seen such a deal or is it that store only?
If it's only that store I may have to go back and check out there library. Might be worth signing up there rather than the one near my house...

I signed up for this on Sunday and asked when they find out which titles will be eligible for MVP and the girl I talked to said that corperate tells them between Saturday and Monday and they have to go through and tag all the movies that night, so it doesn't sound like it's a decision left up to manager discretion. I still did it because the three movies I rented would have been $12, so why not?

When I rented Jersey Girl on Tuesday, the girl gave me the speech about the MVP plan. I didn't want to be bothered then, but just looking at the e-mail I got, I think it's a pretty good deal.

I signed up on Sunday. I'm up to 9 DVDs so far. This is a great way to catch up on movies and television shows. The only problem with the store I go to is they don't seem to carry any of the unrated versions of movies.

It's not bad, though taxes jump up the price a little. I'm using the MVP to temporarily augment my Netflix account (they kinda screwed me on the holiday, not shipping two of my titles that came up last Friday until after the holiday). If Netflix was using their heads they could have had that ten bucks and maybe they wouldn't be in their current bind (well, not just from my measly ten bucks, but you get the idea). Unfortunately, there was a new release I was hot for (and Netflix jumped past it on my queue) and I didn't want to pay $4 to rent it. That same day I got this coupon/card from Blockbuster for half-price rentals until October 11th. So, in the end, it worked out...
I'd also like to see them start carrying the "Unrated" versions of movies, and also carry more "TV on DVD", which has become my latest "thing"...

The lack of unrated titles kind of sucks - especially when I sometimes can't remember an unrated copy exists. I just was watching "Sex And Lucia" and noticed some weird cuts during one of the sex scenes. Sure enough, an unrated copy exists.

Regarding Hollywood Video not having unrated versions, I asked an employee over the weekend about this as I was looking for Badder Santa. He said it was corporate policy not to carry any unrated versions. He mentioned that White Chicks will have an unrated version released, but they won't be carrying it due to policy, even though the original was PG-13 and not R like many of the movies that also have an unrated version.
