New Fry's in GA opening Friday

Up by Gwinett Place Mall on Pleasant Hill Road. Scoped out some good deals, such as Dead Like Me for $34.99

Patman -

The way I got there today was taking the road around the mall right to Fry's. I came in the main entrance to the mall, turned right and continued around.

I walked in there today. It was freaking huge. Very nice employees there. I thought my Fry's days were done after moving from Houston, but happy days are here again.

Good to have a fellow DVD buff so close. I live off Holcomb Bridge Rd.

And no, theneobez, there aren't any other Fry's here in the great state of Georgia!

It's right next to Gwinnett Place Nissan off of Satellite Blvd. They've got a huge sign on the access road from the mall ring road to Satellite.

I live about seven minutes away (with no traffic and hitting the green lights) and I'm excited about this too.

Fry's is planning to open a store in Alpharetta as well - at least that's what the AJC and ABC have stated.

No wonder I have never seen any signs of Fry's, I live on the south side of the mall, and rarely venture to the northwest side of the mall.

OH MY GOD!!!

I found Fry's tonight, and I was not psychologically prepare to enter that store, or wander around in it.

I don't know if the sales dude was pulling my leg or not, but he said the store has 140,000 square feet of retail space. That's frikkin' insane!!!

I was exhausted from just browsing the aisles for DVDs, TVs, digital cameras, HT setups, and magazines. I briefly walked through the Computer area, but it was just too much for one visit, so I left after an hour of wandering around and browsing.

For local Atlantans, the store is located just SouthEast of Sears at Gwinnett Place Mall.

Question...does anyone know which paper the ads are being carried on?

I hope it's the AJC, as they look to use a similar engine to what the LA Times used to use. And if so, then they will probably have their ads available online.

But I saw someone mention "ABC", but I have no idea what that is.

I wouldn't think it'd be any other newspaper than the AJC.

Congrats to all of you in Georgia on your new Fry's! These stores ROCK! It's like a Radio Shack on crack mixed in with a Best Buy, Circuit City, Comp USA.....agggghh! I could go on for days, I completely geek out over this store. I have to say Best Buy hates when I come to their store because when I walk in that door, the Fry's ad is rolled up in my back pocket coming for the good 'ol price match. Fry's is the reason I'll probably never move out of Los Angeles.

By the way what's the stores theme? Out here Burbank is an Alien B-movie, Anaheim is like NASA, City of Industry has an industrial theme (lots of gears and stuff). Just curious, my wild guess would be something along the lines of "Gone With The Wind".

Happy Shopping!

Congrats Patman, you guys deserve a Fry's. Now you can start getting $6.00 52x cdrs like the rest of us

The best way I can describe Fry's to someone who has never been is, " Best Buy on steroids w/ a cafe "

My advice never buy the returned merchandise they put back on the shelf with those white stickers

They are great for pricematching or just looking around for tech stuff.

"ABC" - Atlanta Business Chronicle, the leading business paper in town. They had announced that Fry's was looking at two locations, Gwinnett and Alpharetta.

I went into the store last night, and the theme is "wretched excess of capitalism" - in a good way. Right now there is no theme, unless you count the fake marble columns which give it a slight Athenian agora look. The shelves were packed with goodies, and I was getting tired from roaming around the store.

Didn't see any prices that just jumped out at me, except for some good prices on DVD-Rs. But hey, they're only about to open - and any place that creates some competition for Target and MicroCenter and CompUSA is a good thing in my book.

I can understand your excitement. I'm excited too and I live in Oregon. Everyone should have a Fry's. Now you can get in on deals like the Martin Scorsese Collection for $29.99. I'm still thrilled with that deal.

The theme at our store is Ex Incredible Universe location. Or perhaps Big Ass Warehouse. It makes CostCo look neat and tidy. But I could still spend an entire day there and not get worn out.

Woah, I had no idea that each store had different themes. Our store here in Phoenix AZ is set up like an Aztec or Mayan temple. With big stone walls, plants and palm trees. But again that's a really cool idea, I'd love to see that B-Movie Alien theme.

Houston's theme was the oil industry

yeah, there doesn't seem to be a theme at the Gwinett Fry's. There are some old pictures up on the walls...maybe it will have something to do with peaches. God knows everything else in town does.

- Fremont is dedicated to the origins of electricity as featured at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago
- San Jose pays tribute to the first astronomers, the Mayans, with a setting from Chichenitza.
- Concord is the newest addition to the Bay Area market.

In Southern California:
- Fountain Valley hails the ruins of ancient Rome, complete with a flowing aqueduct
- Manhattan Beach takes you to Tahiti with sculpted lava tiki heads and its own rain forest
- Woodland Hills is a page out of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland storybook, with 10 to 15 foot high figurines of all the characters
- Anaheim places you on the NASA flight deck for the Endeavor Space Shuttle, complete with launches on big screen TV's
- Burbank pulls you back in time to the 1950's with a retro-space theme from Hollywood, complete with Martians and Gort, the robot
- City of Industry where the factory setting is a salute to the Industrial Revolution complete with oversized gears and cogs
- The mystical civilization of Atlantis is alive and thriving in San Marcos with numerous aquaticfeatures icluding a 7000 gallon aquarium with live sharks.

In Arizona:
- Phoenix features a giant serpent above the entrance which is emblematic of its Aztec design.

In Texas:
- Dallas' Lazy-K ranch is reminiscent of it's cattle ranching history
- Houston showcases the oil industry replete with a field of gushing oil derricks
- Austin is a tribute to the city's reputation as the "Live Music Capital of the World"

- Plano depicts the city's evolution from a farming community to a modern-day urban center of commerce

In Nevada:
- the Las Vegas entrance welcomes customers with the world's largest slot machine and features a pictoral history of the Vegas Strip inside

In Washington:
- our Renton store features a historical depiction of the industrial evolution of the community with photographs of the Stetson Mill in 1911 and the originally-built Boeing plant in 1941.

One or two of the delivery trucks still have the Incredible Universe paint scheme.

be careful what you wish for. Fry's is a love/hate thing with most involved. Beware the stickered merchadise, and pray you never have to return anything. Frys is great for DVD's and electronic knick knacks, maybe an occaisionaly name brand hard drive or ram, but dont be lured in by the cheap mobo combos etc, unless your willing to risk the return line.
