Back to the Future Comic Book Mini-Series announced by IDW

BACK TO THE FUTURE COMIC BOOK SERIES ANNOUNCED
17 HOURS AGO BY THOR IN NEWS

IDW Publishing has announced that it will publish comics based on the Back to the Future film trilogy, in collaboration with creator/screenwriter Bob Gale.

“We’ve subtitled this ‘Untold Tales and Alternate Timelines’ because for years, fans have asked questions about things that happened before the events of the trilogy, in between the events of the trilogy, or in our alternate realities,” said Gale in a press release. “In this series, we’ll finally answer some of those questions, with our focus squarely on the characters everyone loves.”

Gale will be joined by writers John Barber (Transformers) and Erik Burnham (Ghostbusters), each working on two separate stories. The artists on those stories will be Brent Schoonover (Batman ’66) and Burnham’s long-time collaborator Dan Schoening (Ghostbusters), with each subsequent issue featuring a rotating team of artists.

“I can honestly say the enthusiasm surrounding BTTF’s inclusion into our vast library of licensed comics is absolutely palpable here at the IDW offices and amongst the talented creators we’ve recruited to help us bring Bob Gale’s new visions to four-color life—enough excitement to energize a flux-capacitor or two, that’s for sure!” said IDW editor Tom Waltz.

The debut issue goes back to 1982 to show the first ever meeting between Marty McFly and Doc Brown, before they began their adventures in the original film. The second chapter heads to 1943 and and tells the story of how Doc Brown got himself involved with the Manhattan Project.

This first issue will feature standard covers by Schoening, Schoonover, and Amy Mebberson (My Little Pony), and an original art styled cover by Schoening as part of IDW’s October Artist’s Edition Month.

The first issue of the four-part Back to the Future miniseries goes on sale in October.

Bob Gale will sign at IDW’s booth (#2743) at SDCC with the rest of the BTTF team on Thursday, July 9 at 1 p.m.

I'm pretty interested in this as the films are some of my all time favorites. Glad that Bob Gale is involved with it. Should be interesting to get more backstory on the characters and fill in some of the gaps.
