The First Annual DVDTalk Make-Your-Own Comic Book Challenge - May 2015

The spirit of the Make-Your-Own Challenges (MYOC) is to come up with a creative subset of books to read, and not just read what you normally read or plow thru your unread pile.

Awesome examples forthcoming:

Challenge starts April 30th at dusk and ends June 1st at dawn.

For cross-Challenge double counting content only, you get the entire days of April 30th and June 1st.

Make one post for your list and update that throughout the month.

Humble Bundle only is a good idea. I need to make sure I read all the non-Comixology content I stumble into buying, and Mays could be a good time for that.

But this May, and sort of related to that, I plan to indulge in my Dark Horse content.

You seem down lately shado, so I suggest a light and fun Challenge, stuff like Teen Titans Go.

I might go with work done by Alan Moore outside of DC comics. I have had a hankering to read From Hell again.

I figure with the Jessica Jones show upcoming on Netflix, this month is a good chance to read the Alias omnibus. If I finish that, my secondary challenge goal will be finishing the Busiek/Perez Avengers omnibus that I failed to read much of last month.

5. Alias 10-12

May 18
6. Alias 13-14

May 20
7. Alias 15-18

May 24
8. Alias 19-20

May 25
9. Alias 21-28
10. What if Jessica Jones had joined the Avengers?

Re: The First Annual DVDTalk Make-Your-Own Comic Book Challenge - May 2015

im enjoying my dive into batman so far

Gotham by midnight is interesting look at gotham and really enjoy the artwork. If there any pre 52 similiar to this?

Gotham after midnight...i read this based on the title to see if it was simiiar but am enjoying it. never seen the big ear batsuit before did that style exist long?

Gotham Academy is well cute

All Star Batman and robin...broke open my friends absolute and 4 issues in and am enjoying it but finding the dialogue rather goofy. is this series praised for a good story or based on its like a bmovie version of a batman book?

Re: The First Annual DVDTalk Make-Your-Own Comic Book Challenge - May 2015

I thought of a good choose your own challenge for May (but im sticking with my theme): a Freebies month. On top of anything you pick up for Free Comic Book Day, most of us have a crazy number of free books we've gotten from Comixology and other sites. Last year Marvel gave away 700 books at SXSW that I've hardly made a dent in.

If by some miracle I finish the books I'm planning to read, maybe I'll finish out the month with that.

Happy FCBD everyone!

That'd be a hard challenge for me, because as a completest I have a difficult time reading just issue #1 of something. If I have the other issues, I must then read the entire storyline. If the run isn't complete, I usually wait until it's over. I have my grandfather's and then father's run of Actions back to 1939 but I'm waiting for it to end before diving in.

I won't be able to make it to a comic book store today, as the one in our nearest city closed. Don't have one closer than 40 or 50 miles away now.

I was bad and did the Mile High Comics annual deal. Order $400 worth of stuff and get all 51.

And related to FCBD and my reading this Challenge:

Ordering $400 worth of comics is not how you cut down on a reading pile.

Re: The First Annual DVDTalk Make-Your-Own Comic Book Challenge - May 2015

I finished the Avengers challenge by starting the Avengers-Defenders war from the '70s but didn't fit in more at the end for double credit.

I kinda wish I'd picked European comics for this month since I have such a backlog, but I'll stick with the B teams.

Have had a couple of good hours reading Grendel from the beginning, but haven't had as much time to read this month as I had hoped.

Belated edit to add my list:

Comics Primer 2
Grendel 1-3

Finished the Silver Surfer Epic Collection: When Calls Galactus. Felt more like a Fantastic Four Epic Collection with some really cool Silver Surfer stuff included. Loved the Microverse stuff very much. And Jack Kirby is the KING!

Re: The First Annual DVDTalk Make-Your-Own Comic Book Challenge - May 2015

The holiday weekend finally gave me some time to finish off the Alias omnibus which was my primary goal, so that feels good after failing to read much of anything last month. As for the series itself, it was very enjoyable and I now am really looking forward to the Netflix series. I might try to read some of the follow-up series during next month's challenge, if not sooner.

Re: The First Annual DVDTalk Make-Your-Own Comic Book Challenge - May 2015

I didn't get to this during the Avengers challenge so I figured it would fit (loosely) into my B groups. It's basically a goofball story about the Asgardians in New York, one I read on floppy back in the day. I got the Warriors Three Complete Collection TPB just for this story (not cost-efficient, I know), but the book also contains some earlier Lee-Kirby stuff and some more modern fare so I'll probably poke around a bit into that.
