I bought the bulk of my comics through a friend's service and I got a hefty discount so it kind of obscured the per issue price for most of that period. When I had to go to a slightly less generous system in the mid-2000s I started to think differently about things. I had stopped finding it rewarding to read monthlies as they came out, -I'd wait until an arc or mini-series finished before I'd start reading. Then the era came in when just about everything was being printed in trades and I started questioning my buying patterns.

I effectively dropped comics for the last ten years because I couldn't afford to sample new comics and the series I regularly bought became less and less satisfying. In the last year or so I found that my county library had a wealth of trades -both current and older stuff, -and I've begun reading again. However, I just can't see paying for comics (other than the occasional Omnibus) anymore.

Definatley a concern.

Spoke to the guy wednesday. He seemed excited to be adding a collection like this for the price.

Averages to about 32 cents a book.

He is coming up tomorrow late afternoon with cash in hand and a truck.

Some things he said check with what I saw on the fb page and some other googling I did on his name so seems to be legit but wont know until it actually happens.

Anyone want to come over to back me up in case it goes south?

Well. In a matter of minutes 30 + years of collecting comics and they are all gone.

Probably a miracle that someone found the craigslist post.
The guy just happened to be in town when He saw it.
Lives about 2.5 hours south of here.

He was thrilled to be getting these books for what amounts to a little over 32 cents a book.
Some of them are worth much more than that some probably much less.

Phew. out of breath.

Why is it so hot in here?

Were they all bagged and boarded?

Was he a private collector or one of these distributors looking for cheap comics? Some distributors buy up lots for cherrypicking the most valuable issues and then wholesaling the rest in various channels.

Re: Comic Book Rant - Hard to get rid of anything

He told me he just wanted them

Said he already has about 6000 books

Adding these he now has almost 3000 more than I did including my Spider-Man books.

Most are bagged. Few have boards.
That got too expensive so I just put boards on the important books.

He genuinely seemed happy to get them.

First thing he checked was the Valiant boxes to see if something he wanted was there.

His wife was dumbfounded that he wanted all those boooks.

Unfortunately they left a small stack that included KIngdom Cone and Fkash 123.
So I told him I'd ship them to him next week.

I'm happy to have been able to move these for a relatively decent amount.

Congratulations - not just for the $ you got, but for getting rid of a lot of things you don't need/want.

That is awesome. When I suggested Craigslist I didn't think in a million years someone would give you your asking price. I guess I was wrong. Congrats.

Give me his contact info - I have 20+ longboxes of some great, uninterrupted Marvel and DC runs from the late '70s up to 2005.

Yeah I'm glad you mentioned it because I pretty much forgot about Craigslist and just threw it up there.

I'm not going to miss moving with all those books but I do miss going in there and looking through them and pulling a stack out to read now and then.
I liked researching the books and finding things out that I never knew before

Up until just weeks ago I was finding new
Character first appearances that I didn't know of and tons of second appearances.

Oh well they're gone but I still have the Spider-Man collection.

Oh I forgot to mention that I had a hulk 181 CGC'd at 8.0 and sold that for 1750.
So I ended up with nearly $5000 for the collection overall.

You are among the unbelievably lucky ones. If I got 100 bucks for the 1000 or so I have I'd be thrilled.
