Doctor Strange: Collected Edition Recommendations?

As much as I am a Marvel fan, I've never read a Doctor Strange story. Does anyone have any recommendations of essential arcs that are his or he is a part of, namely in TPB form? I've been farting around Google but I was interested in seeing if anyone here had any suggestions.

Anything Steve Ditko did. If you get the first Essential Dr. Strange, it has all the Ditko stuff.

Mike Mignola did a great Dr. Strange/dr. Doom story. I forget the name at the moment.

Brian K Vaughan did a Dr. Strange arc a few years back that was good.

The Ditko stuff is fundamental. Too bad the Paperback masterworks are OoP.

Other than that, Roger Stern had a nice run part of which is collected here. Paul Smith is a great illustrator too. My favorite Strange story is a one issue mind-trip by Stern illustrated by Michael Golden

Looks like the must-have readings are OOP then. I guess I'll wait a bit and hope Marvel releases something again closer to when the movie comes out.

If you're looking for partial Strange, I would suggest taking a look at the Bronze Age Defenders as he was the linchpin of that "non-team."

I liked this period of Strange but don't have this particular book:

The '90s Doctor Strange isn't bad, I remember it had pretty good art.
