Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Fwiw, on the almost weekly sales from DC on Comixology, you might not want to buy them on Comixology proper.

You can buy them in the DC app and use your discounted iTunes credit (should be easy to always find 10-20% discount on iTunes cards), and the books appear in your Comixology account as well.

You can buy them on the Kindle store for the same sale prices and get them in both your Kindle and Comixology accounts.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Valerian 1 is free on Comixology.

I claimed it when it was free on Amazon recently, but that volume is not presently linked to the comixology version so I just claimed that as well.

Anyone know when Dark Horse is supposed to have a line wide sale? I thought it was about the same time every year, but I can't remember when it was.

According to this thread, it was July 19 last year. Probably timed for Comicon.

60% linewide Vertigo sale. I'm tempted to abandon my pursuit of the Absolute Sandman volumes (I have one, and haven't read it) and just go digital.

Thanks David. Have everything I ever wanted from Vertigo. Only thing I picked up was some of the latest issues of Astro City.

I think Sandman is pretty much the one comic book that I haven't bought in digital yet. Pretty sure it's the series I've re-read the most, so maybe I subconsciously think it's the one set of books I'll never sell, so there is less of a reason to have it digitally. I recently bought the first volume of The Annontated Sandman, and while I haven't opened it yet, it looks nice and I'm anxious for another re-read.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

The new Humble Bundle is pretty stacked if you like or are curious about manga.
https://www.humblebundle.com/books/f...a-books-bundle

I understand Fairy Tale is a long running and well regarded series currently in it's 60th volume of the main title. The bundle includes 57 trades worth of material (up to v45 of core series plus spin-offs, material from 2006-2014). This is Humble's most generous bundle in recent memory and publisher Kodansha does not yet offer DRM free downloads anywhere else. Kodansha also previously ran a pretty generous complete series (15 volume) Humble Bundle for Kights of Sidonia.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

That's a pretty great deal for Fairy Tail. I would fit into the "curious" category, and it benefits the ACLU. Tempting.

The Vertigo linewide runs through 6/26. I notice that their sale page features the Y The Last Man TPBs (the original collections they released), but the Omnibuses (the deluxe hardcovers they released later) are only a dollar more per volume but have 10 issues instead of five. Going that route would cost only $38.97 for all 60 issues.

I bought most but not all of those Fairy Tail books during a comixology sale. For much, much, much more than 17 bucks.

Yeah, I have the first 20something books physically for Fairy Tail, but this was a no brainer to buy this bundle.

I bit on the Fairy Tail bundle.

I don't know what math I was using, but I got the Y the Last Man run for $26.

I also got one volume of the Gaiman Sandman and might try Sandman Mystery Theatre as well.

I just got an email with a code for $20 off a $30 purchase in Comixology. Check your emails!

A lot of good titles in those 100, ended up grabbing Planet Hulk.

Well, that kinda sucked. After buying a billion digital books, I then pre-ordered a physical book and got a pop-up that it would qualify for this free offer. However, I never received the e-mail, and I didn't want to just order in faith that the credit would be applied. Because the redemption deadline is 6/30, I did an Amazon CS chat, and after a half-dozen transfers, they said the promo was not applied to my account, and they'd credit me $10 instead. That wouldn't have covered the actual volume I was looking at, X-23 Collection for $12.50, but because it was good for anything I just took it.

Like a lot of you, I have spent a bunch of money on Comixology, but I never get these coupon offers that get mentioned in the thread.

Thanks for the mention Joe. I rarely check my email so probably would have missed it. Expires 6/30/17. Will wait and until tomorrow and hope it combines with any new sales.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

What is going on with DC? For a limited time only you can pick up a discount on the first 4 issues of an 8 issue limited series or a deal on Convergence titles for $1.99/issue. This week's sale seems thankfully limited after last week's generous 60% off Vertigo code.

Surprisingly the $20 off $30 code does combine with sales.

I didn't get them at first, but have gotten them lately. Maybe your time is coming.

Yeah, it will stack with sales but not with other promo codes like the Vertigo one. There's nothing that tempting to me this week (except I wouldn't mind getting some of the Peanuts volumes, and those were pretty sporadically discounted on Amazon when I checked), so I just use the code on some Euro comics I've been meaning to pick up and that rarely go on sale.

There's a new Garth Ennis Groupees Bundle. A lot of this has been in on Humble Bundle before.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

OK. I've had Marvel unlimited for the past few weeks now on my free month subscription. i think i've read more comics in the past month then any other time in years.

I find the app is a bit clunky and when you first try to get the comic to load it just keep saying something like "preparing to load" and then that symbol just keeps spinning. The only way i get them to load is if I click on the multiple age icon and then go to the first page. A minor annoyance but I can get around it.

The main issue I have with the service is the gaps as others have mentioned. It doesnt seem to affect most modern comics 200 and up, however many 1990's books and even more 1980's books have issues missing scattered throughout their runs. The missing issues arent even rare or hard to find books that you would think Marvel could easily get up online if they wanted to. With so many gaps, I think i could read all the ones I wanted to in a month or two and then not need their service for a while. Since the service is basically free to me I don't care so much, but I wouldn't continue to pay for someting that had such huge gaps. It would be like have Netflix andwanting to watch The Walking dead but they were missing episodes 2,5,7,9,11 from each season.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

80's and 90's are definitely where the biggest gaps are in MU, so if that's the era you're interested in reading, it can be frustrating. Marvel is adding new issues on a weekly basis and lately it's been almost all 80's and 90's stuff. In the last couple of months they've added large chunks of Alpha Flight, Marvel Fanfare, Power Pack, X-Force, and Spider-Man 2099 among others. This past week was mostly 90's Guardians of the Galaxy and Cable.
