I don't think I ever realized just how horrible those Brigade characters names were.

That dude with the giant hands looks like the hands that were used in the Everlong music video. Wow, that's an awful design.

No wrists for most characters either. Good gosh, he just gets worse.

Who in their right mind would be willing to fund this guy getting his dreck out for free. I'm going to do my part to help save the comics industry by NOT funding this initiative to poor unsuspecting readers don't have to read this kind of drivel.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Genius.

I wish I was that smart and passive/aggressive to do that to Liefeld. So good.

My intro to JRJR. was Punisher War Zone #1.

Depending on what he was doing and who he was being inked by - some of his figures were very blocky. I can forgive him drawing the Punisher that way, though, because those early issues of War Zone were great, IMO.

Re: Rob Liefeld (or Sal Buscema?!?!?!?!) - Worst comic book artist ever?

I was introduced to JRJr in 1996 w/ his run on Peter Parker: Spider-Man, the Onslaught issues. I was 10. It wasn't for me.

And at the same.. I never really felt really good about his work. I never really liked his stuff he did Spider-Man again w/ JMS. And I totally think it has to do w/ the inking on it.

His work w/ Nocenti and etc? Nope. I'm very picky about his periods of work and it's the latter half that I'm impressed by his work on. Everything else before his JMS era looks a bit sloppy to me.

Saying that... I do think his Punisher issues looked good cuz... it had a roughness to it that fit Frank very well.

I first saw JRjr on Iron Man, where Bob Layton's inks smoothed over his weak areas. I really don't like his current style - it's like Frank Miller and Ron Frenz had a square baby.

JrJr started out wonky, without much of a style of his own, which sort of developed while he was on X-Men (which was my first exposure to him), which further developed on Spider-Man, then he did what I feel was his best work on Daredevil, then he's been kinda going downhill since then.

That has a die-cut cover, doesn't it?

JRJR prides his current style on being better at storytelling than his earlier work where he was still figuring out his own style. Plus he's efficient with it and turns in his pages on time. His dad says he's a better artist and storyteller.

Wow, I thought JRJR and Nocenti's work in Daredevil was great. My 2nd favorite run of the character next to Miller's.
I liked his first run on Spectacular Spider-man but didn't follow it for long. His stint on Amazing had nice art but I hated how he drew Spider-man with a kids body.

Kick-Ass looked very, very sloppy. Superman, pretty average.

He kind of reminded of Paul Smith when he was pencilling X-Men.

Have you guys seen this? The full 30 minute clip is also up on YouTube where Lee gives Liefeld and McFarlane a name and brief description and they draw up a character (who was actually used in Spawn). But this clip gives some highlights.

This is from the old Comic Book Greats VHS line.

That's great.

Yeh OverKill was a Spawn character but was later changed to OverTkill for some reason.

Marvel had a character called Overkill, so McFarlane tweaked it.

A "perfect" 90s comic book villain.

Seriously...are there people out there that would pay Leifield for his original art? Check out the asking prices.

Re: Rob Liefeld (or Sal Buscema?!?!?!?!) - Worst comic book artist ever?

That site is new as of this year and the first time (to my knowledge) that Liefeld has made his art available directly in that manner. I assume the success of the Deadpool movie had a lot to do with the timing. The prices are WAY out of whack with the current market for his work, but it strikes me as the sort of situation where he just throws all of it out there at absurd prices and if he sells one or two, it's worth it.

All that said, I would absolutely lay down some of my hard earned cash for some Youngblood art from the original run. It may not be great, but imo it was his peak and the nostalgia for me would be off the charts. I wouldn't pay anywhere near those prices, but I'd still probably pay more than any sane person should.

edit to add: So I was curious what all that artwork on his site even was for (outside of the Deadpool stuff) and it seems like a lot of it is from a relaunch of his Extreme titles that has (surprise, surprise) never seen the light of day. He even raised $35k on Kickstarter to help fund the project. It's been 3+ years and he probably needed an influx of cash for all of the refunds.

A few of those pieces aren't too bad. Though I mean "not too bad" strictly compared to Leifeld's typical work, as you can actually see some feet and some of the anatomy is actually proportional.

The best part was him calling out the feet. And even after they'd"tighten them up" it looks terrible. And it gets sorta uncomfortable for a while there, making me wonder why they'd agree to this at all. In the full version they talk all about egos too. And drawing hands.

To give Liefeld full due, he drew the character and Mcfarlane only did embellishments. Also I still like his art from New Mutants and X Force, even if my enthusiasm has dampened since.

So did Stan claim ownership of this character, because this is the classic case of him giving the name and description and artists doing the rest.

Re: Rob Liefeld (or Sal Buscema?!?!?!?!) - Worst comic book artist ever?

I genuinely like Liefeld's Supreme character. Now a large part of that is due to Alan Moore's writing, but Rob's original design for the character is one of the best Superman knock-offs.

I was always hoping we'd get a Supreme movie...
