I was just hoping it was a misprint on the page count or something. I'll wait for another live.com 30% and get it on ebay. Got a couple others that way.

ULTIMATES BY MARK MILLAR & BRYAN HITCH OMNIBUS HC
Written by MARK MILLAR
Penciled by BRYAN HITCH & STEVE DILLON
Cover by BRYAN HITCH
Is even an Omnibus big enough to contain Millar and Hitch's widescreen super-hero epic?! They are the greatest heroes the world has ever known: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the Wasp, Giant Man, Hawkeye, the Black Widow, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch! Brought together by Nick Fury, head of the elite espionage agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., the Ultimates are Earth's last line of defense against a rising storm of strange new threats to humanity -- menaces such as the rampaging monster known as the Hulk, and an army of shape-shifting aliens bent on destroying the world and killing all humankind. But just as they begin to get comfortable in their roles as international celebrities and America's champions, things get hard! Can the Ultimates survive the Hulk's execution, Thor's imprisonment -- and the advent of the Ultimate Defenders?! The world's greatest heroes are in for the battle of the century -- and not all of them will be walking away! Collecting ULTIMATES #1-13, ULTIMATES 2 #1-13, ULTIMATES ANNUAL #1 and ULTIMATES 2 #1 VARIANT SKETCH EDITION.

hmm...

Get these instead:

These two books (which together make up this Omnibus, are over-sized just like an Omnibus, with the same attention to quality, and extras), retail for $29 each and can easily be found for around $20. So for almost double the price, all you're getting in the Omnibus that's not in these books is the annual, which isn't integral to the stories at all.

I'd agree if I am paying $100, but it will be $50 at DCBS and maybe some extra goodies will sneak in there. I don't really need them since I have the softcovers on the 1st volume and floppies of the 2nd. Ebay them and they should pay for at least $20-25 of the Omni.

Well, the two hardcover volumes can still be found for around $35 together - that's still a good chunk less than $50 for the omnibus (which the cheapest I've ever seen are 40% off retail), not to mention they have just as much extras as Omnibuses do - just saying.

X-worlds comics is having their big sale going on again. Right now 55% off. I ran across it last night, and got Secret Wars Omnibus 1 (item #28707). Today for some reason it no longer shows up on the site, there's lots of other stuff is on there.

Did any who tried to preorder any of the Omnibuses last big sale in Sept get the discount on those? They have Wolverine, X-Men and Secret Wars 2 Omnibus preorders. And if the preorder discount worked I'll be going for the Hardcover X-Men Inferno.

I expect there'd be limited quantities in the scratch & dent? Or I could let my imagination dream up ways they could fill out the category.

Not a Marvel omnibus, but to go along with the "I-can't-believe-they-actually-collected-that" category: anyone see the "new" Youngblood volume 1 Hardcover? The original miniseries, not redrawn, but rewritten and re-sequenced by Joe Casey. Because you demanded it! Where's my early-Image-era Liefeld-copycat Extreme Studios omnibus, featuring Brigade, Bloodstrike, Team Youngblood, New Men, and others.

Makes sense to do this on the 70th Anniversary. I have virtually zero exposure to this era, but I am interested. Of course it is an extra $25 . . . will all the Omnis go up? Or is this a special deal due to restoration. hmm . . . I didn't read the thread in the Masterworks forum. Maybe it says there.

In August 1939 a new voice hit the newsstands and changed the comic-book world forever: MARVEL COMICS #1, with its blazing Human Torch cover, had arrived! And this 64-page pulp package wasn't your typical assortment of super-powered, straight-laced, do-gooders--this was something completely new. The amazing android creation of Dr. Phineas Horton, the Human Torch was neither man nor hero--he was a blazing force of nature that shocked and unsettled mankind. Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner, the half-human/half-Atlantean, ventures from his undersea kingdom into the world of man--not with a mind set on peace, but towards vengeance! These two characters would form the foundation for the style of conflicted hero that defines Marvel to this day, and you'll see them evolve across twelve full issues from their raw forms into the battling fire and water mega-hits of the Golden Age! They're flanked by an eclectic set born out of the fast-paced energy and imagination of the Golden Age including the heroic Angel; the wild and incomparable robot invention, Electro; the hard-edged detective, the Ferret; Terry Vance, the boy adventurer; the Western Masked Raider; and the ongoing jungle adventures of Ka-Zar, the Great. Featuring an extensive essay on Marvel's pulp magazine pre-history, publisher Martin Goodman and the birth of Marvel Comics by noted historian Will Murray, and topped off with special bonus features including original artwork and items never seen since 1939, this collection forms the cornerstone of Marvel history essential for every comic book fan, collector and historian! Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see

I think the price is mostly due to it's size (and maybe some extra needed restoration) - most other $99 Marvel Omnibuses are around 600 pages.

Anybody remember Marvel's 25th Anniversary? IN 1986!!! Only in comics can 45 years pass in only 23.

It's sort of like how Marvel adds all the runs of a series together to get the 500th issue.

True, it's not "Marvel" but some of their characters' 70th. But if they want to market it as the 70th anniversary, I don't mind.

How thick were those comics back then? 12 issues = 832 pages?

I think 64 pages was pretty normal. Add in extras and it seems about right.

Anybody know what's going on with the new X-Men Omnibus? It was supposed to come out on February 28th, but Amazon still shows it as a pre-order with that date still on their site.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see

Didn't that come out years ago and go out of print? Were they supposed to come out with a re-print?

Marvel's weird with the release of their Omnis - they mostly come out as announced, but there are a few instances where if they don't get what they feel is enough orders through Diamond, they hold off for a couple months, when they feel there will be more demand.

They did this with the Captain Britain Omnibus, which was supposed to be out a few weeks ago, but got "pushed" to May.

This is the 1960's X-Men Omnibus that was supposed to be coming out soon. Morrison's New X-Men is OOP and sounds like it will continue to be.

Looks like it will be out on April 22.
Several other Omnibuses are running late also:
Wolverine-April 1 (was to come out after the X-Men)
Secret Wars 2-May 6 (was to come out before X-Men)
Captain Britain-May 6

I'm thinking of getting the Golden Age Omnibus but that cost is high, I'll see what the preorder price is. It's not any bigger than the other $100 Omnibuses. Amazing Spider-Man, Secret Wars 2 are 1,000+ pages, some others are around 800 pages. And the $75 Captain America was around 700 pages. I'm guessing the cost is in all the extra work to fix it up and the coloring, and they probable think they won't sell as many copies as the regular super-hero books.

So Marvel keeps soliciting these things and they are way behind in actually getting them published.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see

I know this isn't technically an omnibus, just like the Inferno HC isnt, but i see there is an avengers dissasembled HC with THOR #80-85, IRON MAN #84-89, CAPTAIN AMERICA & THE FALCON #5-7 and CAPTAIN AMERICA #29-32 in it, priced at 49.99, but onsale on amazon for $29.92 in my "quick picks" in the gold box. Can anyone recommend it. this storyline happened during the time i stopped reading comincs, and that seems like a pretty good price if it is worth a read...

The four stories in that DISASSEMBLED hardcover are entirely unrelated. The THOR story was good, but had its own paperback. The rest isn't worth your time.
