Are any members here comic book collectors?

The reason I'm asking is because I noticed on many threads there are mentions of cover condition, plastic sleeves ,multiple covers, cover errors and a few on value speculations. It sort of reminds me of my days collecting comic. These are very much the same things a comic collector talks about. I have collected comics for over 28 years and I just recently stopped---too many hacks and the prices are really outrageous at times. Collecting DVDs seems like the same thing to me; sort of like a step up from comic books. Also, with DVDs I can at least share them with my wife. She hated it when I collected comics. Collecting DVDs she doesn't mind at all.

I am not a collector per say but I do have a pretty big stack in the basement many of which are Spiderman comic books. Spiderman is still my favorite superhero!!!

These comics easily date back to the early 70's to early 80's....

I have a few boxes, GIJOE, Transformers, Spiderman, TMNT (b&w, and color), Star Trek, Star Wars. Not many, and not in that good of condition. I probably collected them for the same reason I collect DVDs now: they are 1)collectible and 2) usable, they don't just sit on a shelf or in a case. (yes I read my comics)

I think collectors tend to be a little anal when it comes to the condition of something they're plunking down some green for. Plus when one likes showing off their collection, they want it to look very nice. This goes for anything, no matter what one collects.

IMO, it comes down to pride and respect for your collection, no matter how small or obsure.

Been a collector for just about all of my life, though at this stage I have really gotten out of comics and maybe only pick up about 3 a month.

Pretty close to having all of Transformers and GI Joe series... Not because of value, but because I like both of those series.

(Also collected the Get Smart series, just cuz I loved the show and the comics were decent).

just got into it about a year ago. Kevin smith got me into it. I love his DareDevil series. That is a huge reason daredevil is my favorite superhero. I have a decent size collection of daredevil, spiderman, green arrow. I also bought about 30 comics of xmen, spiderman, superman, etc. froma friend. Now though I am mainly into Vertigo titles. 100 bullets is my favorite. Transmetropolitan is pretty good. Preacher is good, etc.

I'm more into DVDs now than I am into comics, but I still run Slush when not busy writing for UGO, so my loyalties are split.

I have about 30 long boxes. My prized possesion is a Sandman Season of Mists HB, in which Neil Gaiman, Kelly Jones, and Matt Wagner all drew (yes Gaiman drew) their own version of Sandman. This was really cool since I don't think Wagner drew Sandy in his story.

I have Amazing Spider-man 18 in VG+ condition...Not sure how much it's worth, but I love it! I also have Amazing spiderman #49 (first one with Shocker) in near mint condition.

I used to collect until they jacked up the price like ten-fold for a comic.

That's awesome. The closest thing I have is a Sandman: Brief Lives HC signed by Gaiman & McKean, and a Sandman: The Dream Hunters with a sketch by Amano.

I collect a bunch of titles. Currently, my favorites are: Catwoman, Fables, Y: The Last Man, Stray Bullets, Queen & Country, and others. I'm not really all that anal about packaging them in bags & boards (sometimes it takes me 2 years to get around to doing so), but I have about 7 or 8 long boxes.

Hi. My name is Bronkster and I collect comic books.

Recently completed the entire run of Amazing Spider-man (original series). Accidentally ended up with two #1's by getting over-excited on Ebay. I will be selling one of them soon.

Also have all Daredevil, most of FF (missing a lot below number 35)

Have a number of Golden Age Superman... #6 being my pride and joy.

And, somehow, I still have time for DVDs.

Somebody stop me before I find something else to collect!!!!

I stopped about 10 years ago, but still lug the 4 long boxes I have around with me. Don't know what I'll ever do with them.

For me, I like the fact that I, like The Cow, have almost all the GIJoes. Plus I liked the mini-series... and I loved the Foolkiller storyline, that one has no respect anymore.

Most of mine are in fine or very fine condition. One day I'll build a database of them and sell them or something.

Nut until thyen, the sit in the closet and excite my imagination every once in a while.!
