New stephen king novel coming [Joyland]
New York, NY; London, UK (May 30, 2012)—Hard Case Crime, the award-winning line of pulp-styled crime novels published by Titan Books, today announced it will publish JOYLAND, a new novel by Stephen King, in June 2013. Set in a small-town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, JOYLAND tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a carny and confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever. JOYLAND is a brand-new book and has never previously been published. One of the most beloved storytellers of all time, Stephen King is the world’s best-selling novelist, with more than 300 million books in print.
Stephen King commented, "I love crime, I love mysteries, and I love ghosts. That combo made Hard Case Crime the perfect venue for this book, which is one of my favorites. I also loved the paperbacks I grew up with as a kid, and for that reason, we’re going to hold off on e-publishing this one for the time being. Joyland will be coming out in paperback, and folks who want to read it will have to buy the actual book."

I almost picked it up, but it looked kind of hokey...of course, you can't judge a book by its cover. I'd have to read it to know if it was hokey or not.

My hardcover copy arrived yesterday -- though I'm likely not going to get to it for another week or so. Also, I'm really digging the McGinnis covers (PB & HB):
*Also, updated the thread title to include the title of the book

^ Thanks for the correction. The McGinnis cover has his familiar girl who has adorned the covers of several other HCC books and Orbik's work continues to impress.

Just finished this a few hours ago.
It didn't really feel like a King book but it fit the HCC perfectly in my opinion.
The characters were easy to connect to and the backdrop of the amusement park and "carny" lifestyle worked well for the story.

Just finished this. The writing style and characterizations are still 100% King. The pulpy covers are misleading. It's not at all hokey ... quite a serious and moving little story. And it has none of the bloat that so much of his work (at least since he became famous) has.

Really enjoyed this. The older I get the more melancholy tone to a lot of King's recent work appeals to me. And yes, less bloat than many of his more ambitous works... and MILES better than Colorado Kid which ranks with the worst of King for me.

I really enjoyed this. Like REALLY enjoyed it. It reminded me off his old stuff. Definitely worth the read.

I got this book on Sat and finished it by Sun night, couldn't put it down. It was a great read. I love how well developed his characters are. King really makes you care for them, even the kiddo.

I enjoyed the book until the ending. I was so jarred by the stupidity of how King gets the narrator and the killer to the amusement park, I couldn't get my mind back into the story. I don't think I have ever read anything dumber than this sequence of events:
When it comes to creating great characters and settings, King is fantastic, but more and more, the stories he places them in aren't worth a damn.

I just finished this and I loved it. I'm a sucker for coming-of-age stories though. My favorite King book that I have read so far, but I've only read 3.

I haven't, but I hate CLOWNS! That has kept me from reading it. The only King books that I have read so far are Under The Dome, The Shawshank Redemption short story, and Joyland. I have 11/22/63, The Green Mile, The Shining and Doctor Sleep, but I haven't read them yet.

And remember, fear is part of the King experience too.

Just finished it and really enjoyed it, but there was one outstanding question that I had to go online to find out:
