The Association by Bentley Little. Slow burn horror story about a Homeowner's Association from Hell. It's a decent read for the most part with effective characterization, just be ready to suspend your disbelief because the second half of the story is downright ridiculous.

I got back to reading it and finished: Stephen King -- The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass
I took a while to get into the story from Roland's youth, but eventually I liked it.
Started: R. Austin Freeman -- The Great Portrait Mystery and Other Stories.

Finished:
I guess it's no surprise that China Mieville can write short stories too. His books have so many imaginative little details, each of which I could easily see being spun off into their own little story. And here's a book full of them, that for whatever reason didn't find their way into a novel (though one which is a spin-off of the fantastic Perdido Street Station).
