Admittedly, despite being a big fan of Mieville I had been avoiding this one for a while. Mainly because it was supposed to be a children's book (not even YA level) and the plot elements sounded incredibly generic (a "chosen one" goes to a strange land that's a twisted version of the real world, makes friends with weird locals, and has to go on a quest to find the magical thingamabob to defeat the big bad who's trying to conquer the realm). And those two things were true but I still enjoyed it because Mieville is very good. There ended up being some twists to the formula that I didn't see coming, and the book is just jam-packed with little creative touches.

I thought that Roadmarks had the all time greatest fantasy martial arts battle. One guy spreads his fingers. The other guy drops a shoulder. The first guy turns a couple of degrees. The other guy says, "You almost got me there." The actual fight is over in a second or two.

Read John Marquand - Think Fast Mr. Moto.
Mr Moto is a Japanese superspy in the 1930s. The stories are always told from the point of view of a civilian. It's a good thing for James Bond that he never had to go up against him. This was my favorite Mr Moto book so far.
Started Stephen King - The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass.

Just finished:
I enjoyed this! Had low expectations due to comments I've read about it, but really liked it. Not as great as Ready Player One, but very fun.
Now starting:
The movie scares the crap out of me still. Just the other week, I was in Georgetown and saw the steps. I hope I'm ready for this.
