Another vote for "not cool". Don't spoil the endings of books without using the spoiler tags, please.

I love that he edited his post to not remove the spoiler, but add another book to the spoiled list. Originally he only cited "Dome."

I sure hope we get to go back to talking about this exciting upcoming book..

Frankly, I haven't bothered with a new Stephen King book since Richard Bachman's "Blaze" in 2007. Nothing really stoked my interest............until now. Until blissfully NOW! I've missed you, Stephen King.

You're missing out by not reading Under the Dome. It's the best book he's done in a looooong time, IMO.

I agree. Even if you don't like the ending (and I did like it), it's a great ride. Some really well-done characters.

I've already ordered this book, and I liked the ending of Dome. It was a great book!

Here's an open question to all the readers who enjoyed Under The Dome: are you the same folks who enjoyed Rose Madder, From A Buick 8, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Insomnia, and Duma Key?

Your responses will determine if I would enjoy Under The Dome

Re: Stephen King: "11/22/63" (releases on 11/8/11)

I have never read any of those books Buttmunker. But I did love the whole Dark Tower series. Also, I took a big break from reading both IT and The Stand. I didn't do that for Under the Dome. I liked IT better than The Stand.

I enjoyed Under The Dome. The only book I read from your list is Duma Key and I didn't like it.

I think I fit your criteria and I enjoyed UTD better than most of those you have listed. For me, it was something of a return to his classic form with very strong, interesting characters.

Rose Madder: okay, only enjoyed the DT tie-in
From A Buick 8: bleh, do not want
Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon: meh, okay
Insomnia: yes, I liked it, mostly due to DT tie-in
Duma Key: found it boring, one of the very few King books I haven't finished

Seriously, not counting Dark Tower books, I think it's his best since Needful Things.

I enjoyed Under the Dome, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and I really, really liked From a Buick 8. I haven't read the rest. I've only read like five of his novels; I eat up his short stories on a regular basis and read On Writing once a year.

Re: Stephen King: "11/22/63" (releases on 11/8/11)

I hated Needful Things, and I only listed those other books as a ploy to see if reading "Under The Dome" would be a waste of time or not - looks like it would be.

But I'm looking forward to "11/22/63."

Your loss. It's a great book with some of the best characters he's created in years.

Not a big deal but Mile 81 is a short story:

Stephen King to release new short story online

Updated: 08/28/2011 06:44:12 PM PDT

Stephen King is back in the e-book game.

The horror master is releasing a short story in digital format only. Scribner announced Thursday that "Mile 81," a "chilling story" set at a rest stop on the Maine Turnpike, will go on sale Sept. 1 at a suggested price of $2.99.

The new book also will include an excerpt from King's upcoming novel, "11/22/63." Klout, a San Francisco-based website that helps measure online influence, will allow some users to download "Mile 81" for free.

King has a long history of writing stories as e-exclusives. His "Riding the Bullet" novella was an early Internet sensation when it came out in 2000.

Hmm... $3 doesn't sound terrible but it could set a bad precedence. Normally we get, what, 20 short stories for <$20? Pretty big mark-up if King chooses to do single releases if this does well.
