Orson Scott Card had a stroke
From his official website:
While any stroke, even a mild one, is still quite serious, it's heartening to know that it could have been much, much worse. OSC is one of my favorite all-time authors, even if some of his personal beliefs I find rather revolting.
Here's hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
OSC suffered a mild stroke on Saturday 1 January 2011. He is now back home, retraining his brain so that the fingers of his left hand strike the keys he's aiming for. He will not be responding to most emails because his typing time must be devoted to finishing his fiction. But he is grateful for your good wishes and he promises not to die with any series unfinished.
For the foreseeable future, OSC will not make any public appearances or undertake any travel. Since his speech is unimpaired, he will still conduct radio and recorded interviews.

I met him once - back in my retail sales day. Didn't even realize it was him until I swiped his credit card (swiped = "ran through the EDC terminal", not "stole from his wallet").
He came across as pretty damn arrogant. I had read some of his books, but was never a big fan. Even less of one after meeting him ...

I loved the Ender series, and some of his other work, but since learning of his radical right wing religious views I haven't bothered to read anything else he's written.

Guess God decided to punish him. Enjoyed some of his books, but from all I've heard (and not just here) he seems like a really reprehensible human being.

Never read any of the Ender books, but I did like his novelization of Cameron's The Abyss. It really helped me to appreciate and enjoy the movie.

I love many of his books, including all the Ender related ones. Maybe, just maybe, he woke up one day, looked back on every horrible thing he's ever said, and had a stroke.

I like his books very much, generally avoid reading his personal opinions since when I do they just annoy me.
Hope he's ok, and writes lots more books for me to read, and I'll continue to avoid reading what he personally has to say.
