Rank Them as You Read Them 2009

Stealing the below from Lateralus' 2007 thread.

This thread is different than the monthly "What are you reading" threads:

1.) Please no book images, keep the images confined to the "What are you reading threads."
2.) Keep your list in one post (edit!) and keep them in some sort of order. Use the below star ranking system if you like (easy way to get the images is to quote this post and copy/paste it out).
3.) When listing a book please use the full title of the book and name of the author.
4.) Write a brief review of the book and tell us why (or why not) you liked the book.
5.) If you like put a link to Amazon or Barnes and Noble to a book using the DVDtalk link.

I know there are a wide range of books that are read by people here and I believe that we can introduce some new books to everybody.

Have fun!

Re: Rank Them as You Read Them 2009

Finished:

The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman

Entertaining read that reminded me of mystery theater on the radio when I was a kid. Probably ideal for a mid-teen reader, I just had to get it because it was Gaiman, he doesn't dumb things down and it was a solid read.

1984, by George Orwell
My goal while re-re-reading this is to only refer to the Bush Administration once per chapter. It got to be too political science for me. Started becoming more of a text book than a narrative.

The Forever Peace by Joe Haldeman
Kinda went into more directions than could be pulled back together by the end.

Now reading: Duma Key by Stephen King

I go back to the comparison I made earlier to slavery. Slavery existed because it was commercially viable and there were those that justified it using circular logic (i.e. slavery was OK because people wanted to keep slaves). It was only when men of moral character started standing up to the slave traders/owners that the wheels were set in motion for the abolition of slavery. I draw a parallel to straight porn. - art

This was weird. Searching for one of my older threads and saw this in the list of threads started by me, but knew that I had not posted here in quite awhile. Neat trick Benedict.

Reminds me to start reading again. Will throw my next book read into this post.
