Re: Stephen King: Under The Dome

Just received a finished copy of this book today. Holy smokes! The book is HUGE. 1074 pages and heavy. I can see that reading this might present something of a challenge for people, just based on his sheer size.

Check it out compared to a normal sized hardcover.

won't be a problem so long as the story is good. Didn't stop people from devouring "The Stand."

So, in other words, about average size compared to other King books.

I think it's a fair bit longer than the last several have been. And still you can get it from Amazon for $9!

My co-worker just told me it's only $8.98 on Walmart.com and Target.com for $8.99...wasn't sure if it was brought up or not before....

Longer yes, but I was referring to it's physical size which looks from the pictures to fit right in with many of the other large King books.

Here's another shot. I looked for some other King books, but couldn't find any.

Re: Stephen King: Under The Dome

Sorry news for Kindle users... I haven't invested in something like that yet though. I really want to, if I'm being honest.

I haven't read a book in quite some time which is rather depressing. The price on Under the Dome makes me certain I will either purchase it or receive it as a gift for Christmas - and that means I will get back to reading and hopefully it will encourage me to read some other books as well.

They pretty much always have the same list price, but in reality usually cost 9.99 (or less if it's not a new book).

I'll bite for nine bucks. It's basically being offered for pre-order at a remainder price. Insane.

Re: Stephen King: Under The Dome

kinda sucks but no big deal..I have about 20 some books loaded on my kindle to read yet..I can wait a month extra for it..damned if im going to lug that doorstop of a hardcover around

funny article..the publishers whine about e-books selling in the 9 buck range yet thats what the hardcover is going to be selling for if you pre-order

IMO to spite the small percentage of e-book readers is pretty silly

Re: Stephen King: Under The Dome

It sucks about the ebook, but it also sucks that Amazon.ca has it for $25+ in Canada, when it is only $9 at Amazon.com in the US. Given the size, it definitely sounds like a perfect novel for an ebook.

The bookstores set the price, not the publisher. The publisher sells the books (either hardcover or e-book, same price) to the bookstore for approximately 50% of the cover price. The bookstore then decides at what price to sell it.

When Amazon sells bestselling books on Kindle for $9, they are losing approximately $6 per book. Same thing with selling hardcovers for $9. They're doing it to gain market share.

I think I'll end up waiting too, it's not like I don't have plenty to read.

and when you complain to Amazon about some of the prices they tell you publishers set the prices...
Im no epxert on the book market but I would think its gotta cost less to supply a book in e-format vs physical hardback as you are not dealing with binding, etc..so if anything they are making a bigger profit on the ebooks
yet the publishers whine that ebooks are taking money away?

Re: Stephen King: Under The Dome

From Stephen King (via the Stephen King message boards)
Dear Constant Readers,

Please don’t believe the press reports that the e-book reader price for Under the Dome will be $35. This was the result of confusion from a press release from the publisher, what Big Jim Rennie would call a clustermug. It is true that you cannot order the book as an e-download until December 24th but the physical book, which is a beautiful thing, you can pre-order for less than $9—so who’s better than us?

Steve

Sorry to quote an old thread, but that has to be one of the best final lines ever in a book. So creepy.

Pet Semetary was the first SK book I ever read and it's still my favorite, along with IT.

Oh, and I picked up Under the Dome from my Gold Box on Amazon, so it was even cheaper than $9. Unbelievable.

Re: Stephen King: Under The Dome

I love the way Stephen King ends his books. A lot of fans have criticized his endings, but for the most part, I think they're superb.
