He did post on his blog today that he is finally done with "The World of Ice and Fire" which he wrote with the people who run westeros.org. This was announced back in 2007 and is supposes to be be out in the fall so at least it's one more thing out of the way.

This thread should really be broken up into a seperate thread for each of the books, but I guess it is too late for that now. Maybe going forward.

I am about halfway through the third book, and am just about at the end of where the TV show left off (and further in some places). When I finally catch up with the following books, I'll have to come back and read through the thread, but for now, there is too much of a chance of catching a spoiler.

This thread has become a catch-all but there are other threads for the books, etc.:

A Dance With Dragons - July 12th

GRR Martin's A Feast For Crows - post-publication discussion thread

A Feast For Crows * pre-publication news & discussion

A Storm of Swords(spoilers)

Game of Thrones

George R.R. Martin again -- what are the criticisms of these novels?

I think I started reading the series after AFFC had a release date, so hats off to those who have been with it since the beginning. The AFFC pre-release thread is a gold. The dude is really slow now.

New sample chapter up on GRRM's website

I just read it and was pretty underwhelmed. He is really starting to ramble in some of these chapters, does he really need 6 paragraphs to describe the fog during this persons walk from where they live to their destination?

A few interesting points like

Spoiler:
The reference to the tree, who I assume is Bran, watching Nymeria and the fact that Arya was playing Sansa in the play.

Arya avenges Lommy

I liked it. Sure, he rambles, but GRRM does a damn fine job of creating an entertaining picture in your mind's eye.

With as big as these books are and as long between them, the books should all start with a chapter summing up the story so far, ie key plot points and where characters are. A kind of "Previously in Westeros" chapter.

It'd be a fun contest just to see who could do the best job of it in only a few pages.

The problem with a chapter like that is, with Martin writing it, it would end up being 400 pages.

Maybe some corroborating evidence from the TV show? Potential spoilers!

Anyone read this theory? It's pretty entertaining

http://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comme...s_a_few_other/

For the TL, DR crowd

Spoiler:
After Cersei's champion Robert Strong destroys whomever the faith sets against him, she regains her power as Queen Regent. Littlefinger has plans to marry Sansa at his seat in Harrenhal, which Cersei gets wind of and sends Robert Strong and forces to Harrenhal to kill everyone. Littlefinger and Cersei's forces clash near Harrenhall. Littlefinger's forces are losing when the Brotherhood Without Banners comes to their aid, led by Brienne and Jaime. Brienne and Jaime confront Robert Strong together in order to save Sansa and prove their oath to unCat. Brienne and Jaime are losing when all of the sudden Sandor is there (the battle takes place close to the Quiet Isle, where The Hound supposedly is working as a gravedigger) and he gets his chance for revenge against his brother.

That's way to "clean" for George to write at this point.

With all of these twists & turns, and revenge and betrayals, this sounds like something that Vince McMahon would book for the WWE. But it wouldn't surprise me if it unfolded like this...

There's a new anthology of short stories by GRRM (and various authors) released last month that takes place in the world of Ice & Fire. Has anyone read Rogues?

It's only been three years since the last one came out. Dragons took six, and he was halfway done with that when Crows came out. I wouldn't expect Winter until 2020 at the earliest.
