GORMENGHAST - worth reading?
Just borrowed the trilogy from my father who recommended it since I (obviously) liked LOTR/Silmarillion etc. and (most) of the DUNE books.
So I'm interested if any of you read it, and if it's worth starting just another 1000 pages novel
Thanks!

It's not like anything else you'll ever read.
I love it. I bought the hardcover versions. The Gormenghast trilogy is slow and weird. I think it's fascinating, but you have to be patient. Peake imagined every detail of his bizarre world, and it's all there. His characters are unique and well drawn, and the world they live in is really disturbing.
Peake was a perfectionist who kept changing things (even the order of the chapters) in his books right up until the books went to press. He died before the last book was finished, so it's a little bit rougher.
He was a poet and an artist before he became a novelist, so don't skim the illustrations and the poems.
