Book Buying Binge

I think I over did it. Was looking for a few new books at amazon and found several I couldn't live without. Anyone else ever go on a new book buying binge or am I the only one

Here's what I picked up (and why)

The Tooth Fairy by Graham Joyce. - I've read Indigo, Dreamside and Requiem all of which I really liked. Grahm Joyce does a great job of pulling you in, and then messing with you once you are there. Tooth Fairy seemed like it has an interesting premise and I like the author

The Land of Laughs - Jonathan Carroll. The Marriage of Sticks came up in my 'recomendations' at Amazon and so I checked out all of Jonathan Carroll's books and The Land of Laughs seemed to be the one to start with. Never read Carroll and wanted to check out a new author

Chemical Pink by Katie Arnoldi. This is the book that Chuck Palahniuk was supposed to adapt for the screen for David Fincher. Even if that doesn't happen, I figured it would be a nice 'wacked up book' to check out. Also I run into Chuck P once and again so I'd like to read what this one is all about. Also I bought this because Lullaby: A Novel Chuck's newest isn't coming out till September (I CAN'T WAIT!)

King Rat - by China Mieville I was going to pick up Perdido Street Station (which won a few awards and such) and Cina Mieville has been recommended to me a few people, but King Rat seemed more interesting to me than Perdido Street Station.

A Caress of Twilight by Laurell K. Hamilton. OK I promised myself after reading A Kiss of Shadows that I'd wait till A Caress of Twilight came out in Paperback. What can I say I am a complete sucker for Laurell K. Hamilton.

The Descent by Jeff Long. Recommended to my at Amazon, looked good, had great reviews on it and I'm looking for some new authors

I buy probably 4 or 5 books a week on eBay lately. I'm reading on average about 2 books a week, so I'm getting seriously backlogged.

I keep saying, "No more books until I read most of the ones I've got"

but then I see something that I want, then something else, then something else....heh.

I've bought over 30 books this summer from various places. I only have bought Angels In America at Amazon. They mailed it to the wrong place and haven't either resent or refunded. I'm not too happy with them.

I've gone nuts the past 3 weeks, both at new and used bookstores. I guess a few years of total cd and dvd addiction bottled up all this literary appetite for too long.

New...
The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, Vols 1 and 5
The Cleft and Other Stories, Gahan Wilson
Secrets of the Samurai, Ratti and Westbrook (non-fiction/military history)

Used paperbacks...
Literature
Kant and the Platypus, Essays on Language and Cognition, Umberto Eco
The Crying of Lot 49, Thomas Pynchon
A Confederacy of Dunces, John Kennedy Toole
Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories, Arthur Conan Doyle
Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories Vol. 2, Arthur Conan Doyle
Babbit, Sinclair Lewis
Le Morte d'Arthur : King Arthur and the legends of the Round Table, Sir Thomas Malory
The Great Dialogues of Plato
The Decameron of Giovanni Boccaccio
Shogun, James Clavell

Sci/fi, alternative reality
Rise of Endymion, Dan Simmons
The Deadly Streets, Harlan Ellison
The Man in the High Castle, Philip K. Dick
The Unteleported Man, Philip K. Dick
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (Blade Runner), Philip K. Dick
The Godmakers, Frank Herbert
The Heaven Makers, Frank Herbert
Hellstrom's Hive, Frank Herbert
Destination: Void, Frank Herbert
Whipping Star, Frank Herbert
Logan's Run, Clayton and Johnson

Good old pulp
Synthetic Men of Mars, Edgar Rice Burroughs
Tarzan of the Apes, Edgar Rice Burroughs
Return of Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs
The Beasts of Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs
Son of Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs
Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar, Edgar Rice Burroughs
Jungle Tales of Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs

Horror
Swan Song, Robert McCammon
The Dunwich Horror, H.P. Lovecraft
The Doom that Came to Sarnath and Other Stories, H.P. Lovecraft
The Lurking Fear and Other Stories, H.P. Lovecraft
The Tomb and Other Tales, H.P. Lovecraft
At the Mountains of Madness and Other Tales of Terror, H.P. Lovecraft
The Dream Cycle of H. P. Lovecraft: Dreams of Terror and Death
The Regulators, Richard Bachman
Desperation, Stephen King
Nightmares and Dreamscapes

EDITED;That should be all of 'em. Don't go freakin' out because, no, I'm not rich - far from it. I got most of these for mega-cheap, rarely paying more than a buck a piece, and many of them I got for half a buck. You think I'd pay more than half a buck for Stephen King? Think again. I hear his new stuff sucks eggs, but for that price, I'll find out for myself.

Have fun, Mutley. Those are two wonderfully absurd reads.
Anyone else ever go on a new book buying binge or am I the only one?
I've actually been on a bookshelf buying binge lately, so that probably answers your question.

gkleinman: Ack! Nearly all those books you mentioned above are sitting right now in my Amazon "recommends" listing.

Clearly I have good taste.

I am a sucker for clearance tables at Barnes Noble, Borders, Waldenbooks, etc... Also, you should see me at library book sales, I spend around $100-$150, and that is with the books priced at .50c - $1.00 for hardbacks, and .25-.50c for paperbacks. Of course, they have the Collector's Corner, as well, and I usually spend another 50 there, with prices from $2 - $5 or so.
