Resources for writers.

How about a thread with nothing but cool links? Maybe we could even have it stickied I'd be willing to organize them into categories.

Here's one:

[GatorDeb, where are you?]

[] I always thought the above was a good idea; maybe a list of FAQs of particular writers/genres etc as well as places where you could go for writing tips.

I'll have a dig around my favorites/bookmarks and see what I can come up with but others feel free to chime in in advance and after the fact!

www.literaryagents.org

has a "agents actively seeking" list which is updated monthly (though a little late at times).

One year anniversary.

I opened this and said "*I* posted in this yesterday?"

still a good idea, though.

The first is a great market listing for SF/F. The second tells you which SF/F anthology has which short-stories.

I am lovin this book right now! 'Wannabe a Writer?' by Jane Wenham-Jones. It's real good. Tells you everythin you need to know about gettin published ans she's pretty funny too, for a Brit! I reckon I gota gd chance of making it now. Also, you should check out other authors wbesites and ask them for advice, It's amazin how many of them are willing to give up their time. This book is sick though! Check it out 'Wannabe a Writer?' this is the website...

Here's everything you need to know for those who want to save their money: Write something original, interesting, and well-crafted. Submit it to an appropriate publication according to their preferred format. In your cover letter, refrain from bragging that you were published in your college literary magazine (nobody cares) or on your friend's non-paying "webzine" (again, nobody cares). In fact, for most unpublished writers, there's little need for anything but your name and contact info, the date, and the title of your story.

It's really that simple.

Is there a site where you can see the ratings for books, just like movies/tv shows are rated? Like how a tv show will have things like "N" for nudity...is there a site that tells you something simular for books?

I don't know if I saw it here, but I remember there was a website that had a list of magazine's and zine's that published short stories. And it had info on each magazine, like odds of acceptance, pay, etc. I can't believe I didn't bookmark it at the time, but anyone here remember it?

There are a lot of websites that have market info (http://www.ralan.com/ for example). I don't know of a website that shows percentage, but this site shows how long a magazine takes to look at a work, and if you click on a magazine title, it will expand to show the status of each response (whether the story was rejected or accepted).

Edit: Errr just noticed this is a sticky. . . . I didn't realize that post was so long ago. At first I thought it was just because it was booktalk, but even booktalk isn't that slow.

Any constructive additions to the thread are more than welcome and keeping it stuck may increase the chances of someone adopting the thing and pulling together the information in a useful way.

How about some links for finding book bargains and used books for cheap?

Not too far back there is a thread where people post their favoured book bargain sites. I'll track it down when I can.
