I've had two friends ask me what they should read recently, and I did the best I could, but I wasn't SURE they'd enjoy the books I suggested. Got any tried-and-true selections guaranteed to please?

We're going to sound like a broken record but these hard-fantasy ones from George R.R. Marting are good:
Game of Thrones (1st)
Clash of Kings (2nd)
(and the third book whose name temporarily escapes me)
Also, someone else in another thread suggested Greg Iles' "Black Cross" -- I read it on his suggestion and it was great. That one is WWII thriller

Eleven Days by Donald Harstad is also pretty good. Same genre.

If a female is asking the series by Janet Evanovich about a female bounty hunter is a good read. Very funny and entertaining. Men would probably like them also, but I think women can really relate to the main character.
