Which actors do you think "nailed" the book character when the book became a movie/television special? Or rather, the actors turned out almost exactly how you pictured them, be it visually or the way they pulled it off.

Off the top of my head...

George Clooney as Jack Foley in Out of Sight.
Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey in The Green Mile. IMO, they couldn't have gotten a better guy on this one.
Piper Laurie as Margeret White (Carrie's Mother) in Carrie.
Tim Curry as Pennywise in It. Not so much Tim Curry, but the makeup was nailed. And for the love of god when is this gonna come out on dvd????

On a side note, I had heard that Jeff Goldbloom was a choice for the part of Randall Flag in The Stand. That would of been interesting!

Granted I used a few Stephen King movies, but their are quite a few of them, eh?

How 'bout y'all?

I thought Alec Baldwin was perfect as John Ryan in Hunt for Red October. The character wasn't a big action hero like Harrison Ford made him out to be, but rather an ordinary person caught up in events too big for him. Alec Baldwin played that really well.

I don't know if this counts, but Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X-Men was almost perfect.

Jeff Goldblum as Malcolm in Jurassic Park.

I agree on Michael Duncan Clark in Green Mile.

I thought the mini-series Lonesome Dove was especially well cast. I had no quarrel with any of the characters and thought the entire cast outdid themselves. Tommy Lee Jones as Call and Robert Duval as Gus were especially well done.

Since you mentioned Stephen King movies, what about Tom Cullen in The Stand? They cast Daubber from Coach, pure genius. Actually, it was interesting to see him do the hypnotism and crying bits.

M-O-O-N spells good casting.

Laws yes, I did forget about him. I also thought Ruby Dee was an excellant choice as Mother Abagail. However, I was disappointed by that Parker Lewis Can't Lose guy's portrayel of Hawk.

Can you picture anyone else besides Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross?

Willem Dafoe in The Last Temptation of Christ. Get it? Nailed. It's funny in that not-very-funny way.

Really. I'm sorry. I just couldn't pass that one up. Forgive me.

Kenneth Branagh as Henry V. He just fits the bill for the "fun-loving prince" who turns out to be a pretty fearsome king after all... Overall, I have to say the casting in that movie is great. Somehow the Olivier version just fell flat for me.

Actually if Jesus was anything like Dafoe in "Last Temptation," I might suddenly believe in all that hocus-pocus known as Christianity. Somehow it's easier to put faith in a conflicted, distinctly human savior, than in an infallible, mythic cartoon superman.

I thought just about everyone in Green Mile was right on (with the exception of Tom Hanks - though he did a good job)

Brutal and Coffey were right on!

Maybe Denzel Washington. Morgan Freeman is a damn fine actor, but Patterson's description of Cross seems to fit Denzel.

Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch in 'To Kill a Mockingbird', a fine movie version of the classic book. I felt he really had Atticus down: slightly absent-minded, somewhat weary, and yet never flinching away from what had to be done. Robert Duvall did a good job as Boo too!

I thought Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins improved upon their characters in the film of SOTL; I can't imagine anyone else in those roles.

As flawed as I feel the (yet enjoyable) film of 'Catch-22' is, I did like Alan Arkin as Yossarian. When I read the novel now I see Arkin in the part. But Art Garfunkel had no business being Nately.

Bill Campbell made a yummy Rocketeer. (Alan Arkin keeps popping up in the airplane movies...)

Kathy Bates could not have been more perfect in Misery. Wasn't crazy about her in Dolorus Claiborne, though.
