Scream Factory 5-Year 50% Off Sale

Ends June 19. Pretty much everything except pre-orders is on sale, which is a nice change of pace from their usual schemes. Definitely some all-time lows, at least for them. Not sure if they've all been lower, either via Shout or elsewhere, but I'm in for a few things.

NOTE: the site seems to be rather busy at the moment . . .

It's not even worth browsing the site, it's slow as dirt.

I can browse the site just fine. If nothing else, this looks like my price point for the Vincent Price Collection III

Re: Scream Factory 5-Year 50% Off Sale

It is pretty damn slow. Also, why can't they just show the prices of all of the titles rather than making you click on that title and go to another page? I'm talking about the titles not listed on the front page.

The pre-order "sale" prices are a joke.

Re: Scream Factory 5-Year 50% Off Sale

Are these sale prices going to be reflected on other vendor sites (like Amazon)? I remember getting other Scream Factory titles that way. As of now, 50% off sale prices are not on Amazon's listing.

According to the email, pre-orders aren't included in this sale, so those are just standard pre-order discounts.

I missed that in your first post. I have a couple of movies in my cart but just have a hard time actually going through with the order just yet.

I'm wondering about this too. Maybe Amazon would price match through CS?

And IMHO this is why the site is slow. Instead of designing shoutfactory.com like a typical e-commerce site, they are forcing lots of DHTML, large graphics, and multiple clicks. It's working better now BTW, but it's their own fault if some customers get discouraged.

I'm on the fence about ordering, but their free shipping threshold does seem pretty low...

I just keep getting this, saying the site isn't available.

Re: Scream Factory 5-Year 50% Off Sale

I got that message a lot when trying to add items to my cart from individual product pages. Usually searching the same title again made it work on the second try, occasionally the third. The site does work, but as others have noted, it's not designed for efficient shopping. And since this is probably the first sale in Shout/Scream's entire history with prices like these, surely they could've anticipated a huge increase in traffic.

Re: Scream Factory 5-Year 50% Off Sale

Bummer...even at 50% titles I would like, such as Virus, are still $15.00. My broke ass is going to have to pass, and hope that titles like Virus go back on sale during their Halloween/Horror and Black Friday sales, and at worst are still no higher than $15 during those sales events. I am willing to gamble that some Collector's Edition titles may sell out, but they have done re-issues (such as Lifeforce), so patience will will out.

I'm sort of in the same spot.

Most of the stuff I'd actually want, like Army of Darkness, Return of the Living Dead, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, is stuff I already own, in most cases on both DVD and blu-ray, and I can't really justify buying them a third (or fourth!) time at $15-$17.50.

And certain stuff, like the Poltergeist and Robocop sequels, are still too much even on sale. If I bought all four, that's $60 for four movies I only have a marginal interest in.

Re: Scream Factory 5-Year 50% Off Sale

I decided to bite and got these blus with free shipping:

I, Madman $12.49
The Dark Half $12.49
Bubba Ho-Tep [Collector's Edition] $17.47
Prince Of Darkness [Collector's Edition] $14.97
Lifeforce $11.49
Without Warning $13.50

Total Payment $82.41

I guess Scream doesn't charge taxes?

It's been a while since I ordered but I believe they do charge tax for California.

.
That's why I'm hesitating. I'll probably cave in the next day or two as Black Christmas has been on my upgrade list for a while, as has ROTLD. And $15 each is a decent enough price.

Just hate to see so much $ going to buy better versions of what I already own.

Blu-ray was supposed to be the final destination for the majority of this stuff, but here I am looking at re-buying The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly for a third time because they keep screwing it up...while still being an improvement over what came before. Enough is enough.

High five! Bloated web design has been a growing annoyance over the last couple years. If anybody wants a good and amusing read (it's long but not very techie) see http://idlewords.com/talks/website_obesity.htm .

I don't know if it's lack of creativity or plain cowardice, but there's been lots of upgrade fever at Shout and also somewhat at Kino. The two titles on my wants list that were cheap enough were also DVD upgrades. One would have been a sizeable upgrade, but I'm really craving films that I've never seen before. Okay, if they're too obscure, release them on DVD first and then upgrade in a few years if sales are good. I'm okay with that. But the world needs only so many versions of Robocop and Teen Wolf and Species.

In the end I bought a couple Arrow titles and CD's from Amazon UK.

Re: Scream Factory 5-Year 50% Off Sale

Not a great sale, but I have been wanting to pick up the following for a while:

-Invasion of the Body Snatchers
-Army of Darkness
-The Thing

Also interested in Buckaroo Banzai, but doesn't appear to be part of the sale for some reason.

**edit** Ohhh, maybe because it's not "horror"?

It's also a "Shout Selects" title, and not under the Scream Factory imprint, so that might also be a factor.

Apparently that's an issue, -there's a few titles that I couldn't find and I wish the sale were across the board. Just out of curiosity, are the early Shout! BDs, -like the Corman films, -no longer available?

Re: Scream Factory 5-Year 50% Off Sale

Crunched the numbers and compared this sale to B&N's 40% off and DD's prices post coupon, and the Shout sale here was still the best deal.

Average price per title was $15 which is right where I want to be- especially if I'm upgrading a title.

Should I buy Robocop 3 or wait for a firesale? They are still giving out posters with it so sales must be turrible.

Does Scream evendo firesales? I think 50% off and free shipping is the best they generally do.
