Re: BLACK FRIDAY 2014 Haul thread

Target:
American Hustle - $6
Gravity - $6
Monuments Men - $6
Wolf of wall street- $6
Barnes & noble:
UHF - 11.81 after 30% off code
Amazon:
Yamaha Receiver
Lego Movie - $3.99
Chef - $9.99
Titanic - $3.99

All the Amazon orders I declined prime shipping, so I also have a slew of digital credits.

Marks first year in a long time I made no purchases from Best Buy. Every year I encounter a problem with ordering from them. Thankfully this year their site crapped out so I didn't have to bother. I don't understand how they're site shits the bed on their biggest shopping day of the year

Might still grab Catching Fire, but i'm not too sure yet. Keeping it simple and cutting back.
Added Catching Fire right now. Had picked up Temple of Doom, but decided to cancel that order despite the price as I'm not as big of a fan of that movie to rewatch it often and trying to cut back.

Re: BLACK FRIDAY 2014 Haul thread

got lots of great films, and many "upgrades" from DVD to BD.

$3.96-3.99
Pulp Fiction
Fargo (remastered)
T2
Usual Suspects
Transporter 1 &2
Donnie Darko
Fight Club
Raising Arizona
MI: Ghost Protocol
Lego Movie
Gladiator
Inception
Man of Steel
Pacific Rim

(Really surprised about those last two being so cheap!)

$6.96
Star Trek:Into Darkness

4 pack for $12.96 (which is about $3.25/movie I think)
Final Destination 1-4

Unfortunately, most of the BD were combos (w/DVD). which I despise as it is forcing me to keep these in cases..(prior to BD, I had a caseless system).. Besides that, I am very very happy with the sale.

Not a BD, but bought The Equalizer: The Complete Collection off the Visual Entertainment Inc. website for $89.95 with free shipping and no sales tax. Regular price was $149.

Me too! Lowest price I'd seen before that was around $110. I've never seen it, but my wife loved it growing up.

Dang, if I hadn't blown my budget out I'd have gone for that and skipped something else. I enjoyed that show a lot when I was a kid, wonder if it still holds up.

Mine's already shipped. Will it have digital copies? We shall see...
It arrived today and sure enough, it's not the newer packaging with digital copies. Not a big deal but it's sort of irritating to know I could've gotten more for $2.50 less. Heck, even with $2 shipping and the 15% off Cyber Monday coupon it would still come out less at DeepDiscount. Been a long time since I've returned something at Amazon and out of curiosity, I went to return it for the reason "found lower price." I put a link in the comments, it processed, and a few seconds later it said I had a refund and I don't have to return the DVD. That seems really weird to me. Shouldn't they take it back? Did I just put a little red flag on my Amazon account over $2.50 by accident? Anybody have insight into this?

Re: BLACK FRIDAY 2014 Haul thread

Didn't get any blu-rays this year. I only wanted to get Frozen and Maleficent but they were sold out everywhere. Oh well.

I did get the Sony S3200 blu-ray player for $49 from Amazon.

The ST TNG sets were tempting but think I'd rather just buy a few favorite episodes on iTunes.

Re: BLACK FRIDAY 2014 Haul thread

Just went nuts on Barnes & Noble's 50% off British sale and purchased:

Sherlock series 3 - $19.99
The Fades - $19.99
Miss Marple (Joan Hickson Volume 1) - $22.49
The Musketeers - $19.99
and two Doctor Who animated stories on DVD, Scream of the Shalka and Dreamland.

Used the $20 off $100 coupon. So, spent more the day after Cyber Monday than I did on Black Friday.

And perhaps it won't be as creepy as the other two I mentioned so I can watch it with the kids while they're young.
Last Christmas, I watched five consecutive adaptations. It was a lot of fun, but then the story is one of my favorites in any genre, any medium, any era. Here are my Letterboxd diary entries for the ones you mentioned:

Scrooge starring Alistair Sim
A Christmas Carol starring George C. Scott
A Christmas Carol starring Patrick Stewart

If you ever get the chance, get hold of the audio performance by Stewart from his one-man stage show. I had it on cassette and then several years ago upgraded to CD. I try to make a point each Christmas season to take a night, sometimes two, kill all the lights and listen to it. It's more satisfying for me than any of the screen versions, though I dig every one of them I've seen for one reason or another.

The others I watched last year, just for the sake of completion:
Scrooge starring Seymour Hicks
A Christmas Carol starring Reginald Owen <- This version plays select theaters this upcoming Sunday and next Wednesday in a double feature with Christmas in Connecticut!

And for good measure, here's what I had to say about The Muppet Christmas Carol in 2012.

Re: BLACK FRIDAY 2014 Haul thread

Thanks, I'll take a look. Don't kill me, but Patrick Stewart has performed A Christmas Carol live here in Minneapolis several seasons. I just wasn't interested at the time and didn't think anything of it. This year I read it for book club, listened to it for book club, listened to the Orson Welles version with Lionel Barrymore, and I'm all about it. Missed out, I guess!

Re: BLACK FRIDAY 2014 Haul thread

This morning, my local Walmart was boxing up the rest of the Black Friday movies. I managed to browse in one of the boxes and find a Blu-ray copy of Walking With Dinosaurs: The Movie and a couple of the $1.96 DC Comics animated movie DVDs.

Re: BLACK FRIDAY 2014 Haul thread

This past weekend was more subdued than previous years. Partly because of the offerings, and partly because I'd bought several movies I "wanted" at inflated prices. Mind you, most of those are still in shrink wrap

Amazon
Breaking Bad - Six season sets at $9.99 each
Titanic - $3.99 Couldn't resist, even though my 2005 DVD edition hasn't been opened. (Any offers?)
End of the World/Hot Fuzz/Shaun of the Dead - 2 copies at $14.99 each. Again, irresistible and a good gift for sons in law enforcement who love The Walking Dead.

Target
Edge of Tomorrow - $6
Mad Men Part one of the Final Season -$10. It joins the other six season sets all purchased for about the same $10amount on previous holiday sales. Someday, I'll begin watching them.
