Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

It's nice to see the Blu-ray movies in the Canadian Dollar Tree stores as we were left out when the Mill Creek titles were sold.

They had:

Arctic Tale
Rampart (combo)
Tresspass
Bad Lieutenant
The Proposition
Upside Down 3D
Cosmpolis
War Inc.
The Code
The Code/The Contract
Dolan's Cadillac
Bernie
A Little Bit of Heaven

Nothing great, but for a $1.25 (Canadian price) a pop, not bad.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Hit three stores on Friday, and two were wiped out. At the third I found Bad Lieutenant, Upside Down, Red Lights, & Blitz, plus a couple of DVDs. So not a total waste. Snooze and lose, I guess is the moral here.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I saw through their website that there was another Dollar Tree closer to me than the one I usually go to. It's Long Beach though so closer isn't always better (It's in a relatively bad neighborhood). I decided to chance it and found they had a lot of the movies left. No Upside Down, but I have that already anyway.

Once Fallen (oops, I bought 2 copies by mistake)
Cosmopolis
Kill Switch (haven't seen this one mentioned yet)
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
Nitro Circus 3D (they had several copies of this)
Elephant White
Home Run
War Inc
Stolen
The Bangbang Club
They also had Bernie, A Little Bit of Heaven, Rampart and Trespass (a ton of these) but I have those already.

Also picked up Can't Hardly Wait, Graceland and Wild America Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Why are some of you buying these movies?
Is it only because they are a buck?

Seems pointless to buy a bad movie just because it was a dollar.

One person's bad movie...

I've watched several of these titles and enjoyed them.

How do I know they are bad if I haven't watched them yet? I know a few of them actually got pretty good reviews. I've found some pretty good movies at the Dollar Tree/99 cent Only stores that I never heard of that I ended up loving. Low budget/non major studio does not automatically=Bad. Bucky Larson and Jack & Jill were big name studio movies. I'd watch any one of these $ store movies before I'd watch those I have seen Upside Down and it was pretty good. Definitely worth the $1 to anyone who can find it.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Some days I am glad I read this forum. As was mentioned earlier, some stores must be setting up for a Sunday flyer. This afternoon they had a bin with a number of the titles previously mentioned.

I picked up the following:

A Little Bit of Heaven
Bernie
Blitz
The Code
The Contract
Dolan's Cadillac
Elephant White
Nitro Circus 3D
The Paperboy
Rampart
Red Lights
Sacrifice
Straight A's
Titanic (four-part miniseries)
Trespass
Upside Down 3D
What Maisie Knew

I stayed away from one title that I saw - 'Way of War' - mainly due to the exceedingly negative reviews.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I have so many films (& video concerts) I haven't watched, that even at 10 cents, I need to be picky!

I've also GOT to downsize due to an impending move, & my disc collection is the #1 impediment!

I'm hoping to find the time to convert most of my cd's to flac, & sell them on ebay; but I don't see that as an option with dvd; i don't want to store as H264, avi, mkv, etc; & even if I wanted to do the same with br's, I don't currently have a br drive in my pc's.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Most disturbing about this sale is that I paid a few dollars more for some of these BDs in recent years. I got a used copy of Red Lights from GoHastings for the more expensive amount of $4. I think I might have paid $5 for Blitz at Target.

I am really surprised this batch ended up at Dollar Tree.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I think I ended up with an extra of the 'key issues': the two 3D titles and the combo pack. If my local friends don't need them I'll have a few to trade out.

Found a Titanic with a slipcover too!

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

With all of these cheap Blu-rays from Millenium Films, I always wonder how this studio is still afloat?

If you look on IMDB most of these films have budgets of $2-10 million dollars with opening weekends of $189,000. A movie like Upside Down cost $60 million.

Their home video market seems to just wind-up at Dollar Tree for $1 which I'm sure their cost per disc is well over a dollar.

I don't think I can name one hit this studio has had. I guess the over-seas sales
make them profitable.

Don't recall any of them playing in theaters either, but some of them are actually good movies.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

The stand was up at my nearby store, but all that was there were DVD copies of You Don't Mess With the Zohan, two junkie Christmas movies and, like, ten bags of popcorn.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

went to so many DT's in the last week, it makes my head spin.

Never found 1 copy of Titanic or Upside Down 3D (a few copies of the DVD though). Is Titanic the combo pack or just the BDs? Didn't see Labor Pains, The Greatest, Blitz or Babymakers either, but I had gotten Labor Pains at Frys earlier for the ridiculous price of TWO DOLLARS

Got about 20 BDs and 20 DVDs. That's the problem with these sales -- I end up picking up a bunch of stuff I'll probably never watch since it's just mediocre. But at least I have a choice.

Best Finds:
What Maisie Knew
Cosmopolis
Nitro Circus 3D
Kill Switch
Rookie Blue S1
Joan Rivers - Don't Start w/ Me (which nobody has mentioned)

For a buck and it's Steven Seagal , it has to be worth a dollar. It just has to be

This batch sold out in a day or two at most Dollar Trees. I assume some stores will have forgotten to open the box on the expected sale date, so going forward it will be completely random unless you get the store to rifle through their backroom merchandise.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Apparently the north Jersey stores all put the discs out Friday 6/6, and most were gone by the next day.
Of the titles mentioned, the only thing I wanted but didn't find was the "Titanic" MS. The only reason I got some of the titles I wanted was pure numbers: I must have hit nine Dollar Trees this week.

For anyone who's interested - the BD of "Cosmopolis" that DT is selling is the 2-disc (BD + DVD) Best Buy exclusive version. The slipcase is missing, so You might not realize it...

My haul thus far:

6/22 Edit: Went in a New Brunswick NJ DT last week and all they had was one lone BD...and it was "Titanic"!
Stores here are now pretty much down to the stuff they can't give away (kids DVD's, multiple copies of "Bernie" etc.)

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I have made a near-daily stop at my local store and haven't seen a single BD, or evidence that any have arrived. I've asked a few employees and have had no luck. Today, I ask a guy if he's seen any DVDs/BDs and he nods and heads to the stock room. My overwhelming joy is quickly destroyed when he brings out 2 small boxes of DVDs. Says he hasn't seen any BDs and seemed shocked that a Dollar Tree would have any of those.

I did purchase a few DVDs, only so I wouldn't feel like my efforts were completely in vain. A few of these look like they might be keepers: Red Dog, Tempest, Upside Down, Junebug.
