Final run

Really frustrating to go back to stores that were empty yesterday and had movies today but very few or no Blus. Either really uneven distribution or a small supply of Blus that were quickly taken. Unless you're there at the magic hour, you're out of luck.

DVDs really outnumber by the Blus by a wide margin. If they were interesting and varied DVDs like we've gotten in past sales, I wouldn't mind as much. But the DVD selection is the same old few movies this time around, most of which also have Blus in this deal, making it pointless to purchase the DVD versions. Mr. Nobody, The Betty White Collection, Cashmere Mafia: The Complete Series, and that 8-pack of terrible direct-to-video action movies were probably the DVD highlights this round (IMO).

Still, I'm happy with how I did overall.

Latest haul:

Blu-ray

- Ernest Goes to Jail (eh, why not - should be fun)

DVD

- The Brass Teapot (I'm aware that the Blu is in this run too, but sure as heck not in my area - it looks enjoyable enough that I'm okay with the DVD for a buck vs. nothing at all)
- Tortured (I'll probably regret this, but it looks interesting)

Book

- Flip by Kevin Cook (I'm not familiar with Flip Wilson, but Redd Foxx, George Carlin, and Richard Pryor I do know - and he apparently influenced and/or helped them. The back of the cover said The Flip Wilson Show and All in the Family were competing in the ratings every week. Pretty impressive!)

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Scored big at 2 stores I visited today. Picked up the majority of these as blind buys. Already own a few of these on BD. A couple of others I have on DVD from previous Dollar Tree trips.

Angels Crest
The Answer Man
Are You Here
The Architect
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
The Brass Teapot
Ceremony
The Code/The Contract (double feature)
The Good Doctor
Good Neighbors
Good People
The Great Buck Howard
A Hijacking
Home Run
Jungle Shuffle
Killing Season
The Life Before Her Eyes
Ondine
Parkland
Perfect Host
Rampart
Reach Me
Roadie
Shadow Dancer
Stolen
Strangerland
To the Wonder
Upside Down 3D
What Maisie Knew
Wonderful World

I visited 3 other stores--1 said they were getting the truck this evening (I won't have an opportunity to get back to this one), another told me by phone the truck would deliver this evening and they'd be out tomorrow/Monday (I stopped by because I was near and didn't see them) and a 3rd confirmed they had them in the back and would put them out tomorrow. I did everything short of beg for them to let me have a peek, but the lady wouldn't budge. No way I'll have time to visit that one again.

I might venture out tomorrow, but it seems a good bet that I've seen most of the titles that are in this new batch.

Hey, at least you still got one. Picked clean is NO BD's

My local store only had a 5 copies of "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" left on DVD. Apparently the people (or person, a clerk at that store told me that one customer had bought the whole table full of DVD's and BD's once) really doesn't like Zohan.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

The only thing left at the one I visited today were several copies of You Don't Mess with the Zohan. It must be the worst movie ever.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I hit seven Dollar Trees Yesterday.
Three had nothing. Three had about a dozen or so DVD's (mostly Zohan and Strangerland). One had a pretty good assortment. I only grabbed three:

Parkland BluRay
Angels Crest BluRay
Shadow Dancer BluRay

Of the movies I spotted, the best ones there (IMHO) were Good Neighbors, The Paperboy, and Mr. Nobody. I already own all three on BluRay, and the Dollar Trees only had them on DVD - but they're all highly recommended.

I was interested in getting 360, but only saw it on DVD (so passed). Has anyone spotted this on BluRay at a Dollar Tree?

Wife picked these up from one store. Still have 2 to check, then I'm done, not going to recheck stores. To many of them around here.

I've been monitoring a few different boards and nobody has mentioned seeing '360' on Blu-ray, just the regular DVD...

I don't think he meant he got them all on that trip. I think he meant the overall final haul was that list. I don't believe ANY store has anything left at this point in time

I was at my local DT yesterday and literally saw only 1 Blu-ray, and it was a documentary called Earth from Above or something like that.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I came across a store with new DVD stock, but no Blu-rays whatsoever. They had multiples of virtually every DVD, so it's unlikely a location would get wiped out by one or two collectors.

The only interesting BD looks to be that Elvis collection.

He is willing to perform in direct-to-video garbage if the producers meet his price. Slater and Cage are very similar in that regard.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I walked into my closest Dollar Tree on Friday evening and must have walked in at just the right time. The front table was 90% full. The BDs I saw were: SWAT/Basic double feature, Seagal/Van Damme Action 4-pack, The Big Picture, 360, Earth From Above: Stunning Water. Probably 2-3 of each.

Way more DVDs. Lots of interesting stuff that I hadn't heard of before, stuff that probably wouldn't have been nearly as interesting if it was more than a buck. I didn't have a great deal of time, but still grabbed a couple of BDs and 8-9 DVDs after checking reviews on my phone.

Within 5 minutes of being at the display, I had 4 other people digging through and tossing various stuff in their cart. Makes me think anything good wouldn't last long. Yesterday, I was near the store in the next town over. Their display in the front of the store was 10% full with a bunch of junk.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

5 of north OC stores in SoCal were picked clean for blus. However, like Cardsfan111, I must have lucked out (thanks to the rain) at one store that seemed to have the most variety at the front of the store. Picked up:
Elvis 3 movie collection (a lone copy)
360
A Hijacking
The Big Picture
Stander (DVD) - this one's a South African film and has favorable reviews
Crazy Kinda Love (DVD)

Thanks, hariseldon! I've already got two of those three on standalone discs, so I'm not going to grieve too badly if I don't find the three-pack.
