Ime, it doesn't happen often, and when it does, then it's usually because one online retailer (most often Amazon ime) is a few weeks to a month slower to adjust the MSRP/List Price in their systems. But in rare cases I've seen certain titles remain at quite different MSRP/List Prices for many months, if not years.

For example, there's a DVD called Niagra Motel. It's been out for nearly 4 years and Amazon and Half.com still have it at it's new release price of $28.98:

http://www.amazon.com/Niagara-Motel-.../dp/B000Z27HFE.

But B&N, Deep Discount, and DVD Empire believe that that price is $9.98. It appears that it's the same version everywhere, so I can't understand why the MSRP/List price would vary by $19.00?
Looking at the title you mention on Amazon, it just says "Price: 29.98". If it was what Amazon thought the MSRP is, it would say "list price: 29.98", kinda like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Cormans-Classi...4594954&sr=8-1

Now whatever is listed may in fact be the MSRP but that is not the way Amazon is listing it. I think.

I will say distributors are not that quick and efficient with updating their customers of MSRP changes either. I've seen them get caught in billing errors months later. It's also in a store's advantage (though disingenuous) to leave the old, higher MSRP up....they're now paying far less per piece and can even cut their sell price while still showing a "big discount" off the MSRP.

Good observation. Thanks.

Theoretically that's entirely possible, but in this specific instance, seeing as how this title has been listed for so much less by so many other retailers for more than 6 months, then I don't believe that that's true in this situation. That's one of the reasons that I linked to this particular title, because I've seen precisely what you describe below, when Amazon is simply a "little" later (1-4 weeks) in adjusting their MSRP/List Price downwards compared to some others.

For example, they will have a title starting at $29.98 and then start offering large discounts of 50% - 75% off. After a week or two then, B&N will show a new MSRP of $9.99 and then 3 weeks later Amazon will show a new List of $9.99 too.

Again, I very much agree that that's what happens in the majority of instances. Very rarely, I'll come across something like this which just puzzles me and seems anomalous.

re: Amazon Blu-ray Discounts and Deals Thread #27

If you rent an Amazon VOD title from a list of Paramount & Anchor Bay movies, you get a $5 coupon to buy any of the movies on DVD or Blu-ray. There's a couple $0.99 rentals on the list.

It looks like the Paramount rentals get a $5 coupon for a Paramount disc. And the Anchor Bay rentals get an Anchor Bay coupon.

For a limited time only, rent the SD or HD version of any of the below titles and get a $5 credit towards the purchase of that title on DVD or Blu-ray. You may also use the $5 credit towards the purchase of a select set of products on DVD and Blu-ray.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...cId=1000610831
If you've been buying New Release movies on Blu or DVD, you might already have some VOD credits sitting in your account.

I rented Sunshine Cleaning for $0.99 and got Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil [Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy] for $8.99.

^ I don't think you need Prime to rent a movie from Amazon. I wouldn't think so anyway. Prime members get free streaming for a selection of titles, not free rentals.

These are Amazon Instant Video rentals. I don't think any of the movies qualified for Free Prime Streaming.

Lots of people have free Amazon Instant Video credits sitting in their account. I'd racked up $28 in credits without even knowing it. You can check your credit balance on any Instant Video listing page. At the bottom of the black box, click on the View Balance link.

Here's a couple Blu-ray prices after the $5 coupon:

ANCHOR BAY
$8.99 - Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil (3D/Blu/DVD Combo)
$12.49 - Scream 4 (Blu/DVD Combo)
$4.99 - Nothing Like the Holidays
$3.49 - Sunshine Cleaning
$12.99 - Submarine
$8.49 - Father Of Invention
$13.49 - Bereavement

PARAMOUNT
$6.49 - African Queen
$11.99 - Election
$10.99 - Godfather
$10.99 - Godfather 2
$16.99 - SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (Blu/DVD Combo)
$6.99 - Four Brothers
$11.99 - Lovely Bones (2-Disc SE)
$8.49 - Lovely Bones
$15.49 - Up In The Air

I didn't realize you could check your Instant Video credits like that. Thanks for the tip.

Also, Up In the Air has been as low as $7.99, so I wouldn't suggest anyone buy it for that price.

I didn't mean anything about the streaming video, what I meant was that I'd have to reach $25 to get free shipping, I can't just place any order with free shipping.

I was rather surprised to find I had $10 waiting for me to activate because I traded in some DVDs. Thanks for the heads up. Hope to apply the $5 coupon to Dark of The Moon or something in the next month. Maybe it'll get to $11.99 or less for a sweet deal.

Anyone know if you do get the $5 credit from renting a VOD more than once on the same account? Perhaps once for Paramount, and once for Anchor Bay? That's what I would guess, but I just want to confirm.

Some of those Anchor Bay prices I posted yesterday have changed. It looks like the Paramount prices are still the same.

I was able to get two Anchor Bay coupons.

I rented Sunshine Cleaning for $0.99 and got bought Hookwinked 2 for $8.99. Then I went back about 15 minutes later and rented The Dog Who Saved Christmas for $0.99 and bought the Sunshine Cleaning blu-ray for $3.49.

I was going to jump on the Hoodwinked 2 combo for $9 deal, but the price went back up yesterday, and my Prime expired today. I thought Amazon would keep it through the day at least, but looks like they killed it at midnight.

Merry Christmas Amazon.

I'm surprised Amazon hasn't matched Best Buy's $14.99 on the BD of Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Best Buy has it on sale with free shipping. Why wait?

I've been impressed with Best Buy's no minimum free shipping this holiday season. I wish it were all year.

I no doubt will. But with Amazon Prime - and no tax - I'd be willing to wait if they drop the price. It's a weird game I like to play, as if my Amazon wishlist was some kind of imaginary stock market where I watch/wait for dramatic price fluctuations before I act.

Is someone not properly estimating their taxes they should put on their IL state tax returns from internet purchases that don't charge tax

I might end up blind-buying this one at the right price--not sure if this is quite low enough for me. Have to say that the Netflix rental window scheme is working on me to some extent.
