Red - $12.99 at Amazon
Looks like they are getting a jump on the Target sale, which I still can't believe isn't a misprint:
Red for $12.99
I thought this deserved its own thread. I can't remember another "high profile" release that came out this cheap on Day 1.
EDIT: Fixed the link

Wow, that's crazy. I ordered just about 40 minutes ago.

Placed an order when the deal hit around noon.
I still don't understand why they'd do two versions of this when the deluxe version barely has any extras as it is. And on top of it, Best Buy has a DVD+BD combo that's exclusive.

Who knows but I hope other studios don't follow suit (I mean with the audio change).

I was about to jump on this.
So... it seems the Special Ed version is different, audio and special feature wise, correct? The lack of dvd copy goes without saying.
lmk
thanks

Re: Red - $12.99 at Amazon
nope, none of them are 2 discers
Barebones edition.... single disc, movie only with only DD 5.1 sound
SE----Single disc on a BD 50 with the special features and lossless sound
Best Buy exclusive flipper--- same as the SE but with a dvd on the other side (flipper disc)

That matches what I read. It's bad enough when they make 2 different single disc versions of the same thing. What's worse here is (as people said) the cheaper BD has inferior sound. It's one thing to leave off extras (i.e. "movie only version") but to degrade the sound is despicable... no excuse for that other than greed. So there's no way I'd buy the "movie only version" of Red, and there's no way I'm paying more than $15 for this blind buy even though it has good reviews. Short of PM'ing Target's ad for $13 on the SE BD and getting lucky that the employee doesn't notice, it looks like I'll be waiting. It'll be interesting to see how many people post success PM'ing the SE BD.

BD-25. I can understand the extras, but the audio downgrade is dumb. I assume what happened was they wanted to cut costs for the cheap version and already had a video/audio encode that exceeded the 25gb capacity.

... or offer an incentive to ponying up for the special edition.

I like the 12.99 price point for new releases, but The Expendables and The A-Team were much more tempting impulse buys since they were combos (I know they weren't day 1 though)
Edit: Expendables was a combo with digital copy but A-Team was just DC

$12.99 for a new release I was blind buying was a good deal to me. I like features as much as anyone, but I like money more

That's good. It all depends on the employee, and happily I had success too. I had to forego the extras that some people were able to get PM'ing at BB (BD), but decided it was worth sacrificing the comic book, DVD copy, and movie cash for a more pleasant experience at Walmart than the 99% likely denial I expected I would've gotten at BD (after the usual 10-15 minute wait in the customer service line to get waited on). I watched it last night and thought it was decent.
