re: Walmart / walmart.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Picked up "The Searchers (John W)" for $10, always wanted it. Could have picked it up at Amazon for $7.99, but only two bucks more and I have it now.

I picked up a 2nd title for 8$ but I cannot remember what it is, "Red Heat" is stucking in my mind, though I did pick it up and put it down many times.

Quick update. Posters over at Blu-ray.com are confirming the following Sony titles for $10:

Blue Streak
Hollow Man
The One
Quick and the Dead
Wolf

Some are also reporting a drop in price for the Anchor Bay / Starz BDs, such as Halloween for $8.

Yep, mine had Blue Streak and Quick and the Dead (dammit, already bought the DVD recently). They also had the $8 titles. Not sure if it's the same as others, but at mine it was on an end cap closer to the video games...

One of the WMs near my house in going through a remodel (which is weird, as it was just remodeled into a Supercenter a few years ago) and their BD selection got completely gutted. What was the first WM that had a decently sized BD area, now has just a few of the $8 Lionsgate titles and new releases.

I'm never going to find that Saw triple pack.

Nice to see some new $10 titles. I'll get Quick and the Dead for sure...

Today, I saw the Casino Royale 2-disc Blu for $14.96. Of course, this was after I bought the 1-disc used for $5.65 at Hollywood Video's online sale.

Just picked up the Arrival for $8 at the Elk Grove, IL Wal-mart. Figured not a bad price for a blind buy.

If you like Leon: The Professional, then you'll also really enjoy La Femme Nikita.

re: Walmart / walmart.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

FWIW, and it may just be my particular Walmart, but they were pulling all of the 8, 10, and 15 dollar Blu-Rays off of the shelf today. I asked the associate if they were setting up a new display and she said no, they were sending them back and would no longer carry them. So if you are procrastinating on some of these titles you may want to pick them up sooner rather than later.

The shelves at one WM were CLEAN...literally half of the DVDs and Blu were being pulled. The other one? Loaded up to the gills...

What the hell? What is Walmart doing? Getting rid of the cheap Blus that will sell over the more expensive ones? I cannot figure out this stores strategy. This kind of thing really does scare me though. If they are getting rid of these maybe Blu is just not selling. I hope were not buying up the new Laserdiscs.

I went to one of the older supercenters today and they had very, very, few Blu's. One rack of cheapos, one rack of new releases and no catalog titles. Maybe 50 titles max.

Wal-Mart sucks when it comes to selection of titles. You would think that someone that works in corporate would know what they're doing but they seem like they don't know shit.

Did it come with the Walmart exclusive soundtrack CD, or was it the regular release?

They obviously see no value in catalog titles, or titles more than a few weeks old. All of them around here are going with a very small selection. I just haven't figured out what they are doing with the space though. I haven't seen a marked increase in SD or CD.

This is obviously very different than their previous model with DVD. WM was a treasure trove of cheap and deep catalog titles.

Maybe they just figured that Blu-ray is too premium a product for their customer base.

No soundtrack CD. It was just the regular release.

I went by WM this morning and all the $10 BDs were gone, but they still had some $15 ones. I also saw new $15 BDs on the shelf. I saw Shrek the Third, Madagascar 1 & 2, The Bee Movie and The Spiderwyck Chronicles.

re: Walmart / walmart.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Well with the bad comes some good. My local Walmart took all their cheap Blu-rays down last night as well. But today were starting to put up new $6.00 and $7.50 DVDs. Lots of great random titles. Not the kind of titles you see everyday. So yea... It's not BD but at least we can get some new great deals on SD titles. I guess when it comes to Walmart SD just sell a whole heck of a lot better than BD. For now that is...

Ah, so that explains why half the tvs on the wall were taken down yesterday: square tube tv's are making a comeback at Walmart!
