Other than being patient on ebay, can anyone tell me a good place online to purchase good quality optical and s video cables. Also, what is a good brand other that Monster? I am pretty new to this and am currently using an ultra thin Philips optical line that I purchased for 19.99 at Wal-Mart. The s video came with my JVC DVD player. With better quality cables, is there really that much difference? Thanks

Check out Lowes, they had some fancy 6' optical cables for $19.99 - the same price as the real thin ones. My system has 7 optical cables in it so I'm gonan relace them with these ones from Lowes

These companies make excellent cables:

http://www.kimber.com

http://www.nordost.com

I use Kimber PBJ and Nordost Flatline in my system.

The biggest difference will come from the shielding you get in these s-video cables compared to the thin wire you have. Thesy are also very well built and will last a long time.

Is this correct???

3 feet of Kimber S-video is over $400.00???

Just posted those links for an option other than Monster. I also use some of there products so I know they are high quality.

This is what I use for s-video. It is well shielded, the connectors are well made and it isn't $400 meter:)

Many people here will tell you that unless you have long cable runs, or have ULTRA high end equipment, the cabling should not have to cost you much.

Many of these same people will also tell you that you go to any Radio Shack and get decent cables for a decent price.

I was not party to this information when I first got into home theater so I probably spent more than I had to on cables. Though I was happy with my heavy gauge speaker wire for my surrounds as each run is about 50-60 feet.

I have a good friend who has bought cables from Radio Shack and was quite happy with the performance of them.......

Why don't you give http://www.accessories4less.com a try. I have purchased almost all of my interconnects from them and I can't be happier.

Thanks to the guy who suggested Lowe's! I never would have thought that they had such a good selection of home theater cables and connections. I got a 6 foot Acoustic Research for 17.99. Very heavy duty, unlike the 19.99 made in China one from Wal Mart. Anything for home theater you want, and if you on some kind of a budget but want desent stuff.... go to Lowe's. I went by radio shack and the cables I got at Lowe's look to be much better built and were better priced. Thanks for all your input!

Where are you finding Acoustic Research cables? I've been looking in my local Lowes and all they have are GE and Recoton cables...

The Lowes here in Wilkes-Barre has all their home audio/video cables & accessories in the "telephone" area, but there are 2 sections so make sure you see both of them to find everything you're looking for, the 2 sections here are divided by outdoor speakers, antennas, TV & speaker mounting brackets, and remotes. All I can say is that I;m extremely satisfied with the selection and price of what Lowes carries, while the local Home Depot was terrible. The only thing missing from Lowes would be component video cables - but I'm sure it will not be long before they begign to carry them as well.

The Lowe's I purchased mine from was in Auburn, Al and is a superstore. Like the guy said they had everything except component video and you can not beat the price. They were in the telephone section like he said and there is a "high end" section with acoustic research and a recoton section that are priced roughly the same as the Acoustic Research. Don't ask why......
