Whenever I use a stereo VCR to dub a stereo source (eg, TV or laserdisc), regardless of whether I use cheap RF cables or good quality RCA composite, the resulting VHS tape sounds HORRID on my MONO combo TV/VCR. Specifically, the actual sound from the film is very low and there is a strong hissing/buzzing noise.
I've tried setting the stereo VCR to "mono" (which is an option available only if I use the RF input) during recording to no avail. The tape still sounds terrible on the combo.
The combo can tape cable TV and play it back just fine. It also plays back commercial tapes with no problem. No hissing and the sound is fine. However, when I use the combo's composite connections to dub something, the audio SOUNDS fine during recording, but the resulting tape will suffer from low volume & hissing during playback.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Is it a common problem? I notice a similar problem with a mono standalone VCR, but it's not nearly as bad as the combo.
