The source print is quite poor, filled with specs, scratches, dirt, etc, and the subtitles are presented against big, blocky, distracting black bars. The audio has pops and scratches and is hissy as hell. In short, it's hardly the ideal presentation.
Here's the good news: during a chat over at the Home Theater Forum, the Criterion reps said that this was in the works for a future Criterion release (also Master of the House)! Of course, who knows how long that may be...
Since it's such a brilliant film, I do recommend that you at least rent the Image disc. I own it and I've watched it three times now, so at least for me the presentation doesn't quite reach the level of 'unwatchable'.
But it ain't too good either!
