Since Clerks X was a success, it appears that Mallrats X is on it's way.

Enjoy

The proposed Mallrats 10th Annviersary DVD scores a mention at IGN today:
Looks like Kevin Smith's next special edition DVD will be Mallrats. At a recent "An Evening With Kevin Smith" show, he confirmed that the DVD is no longer available because Universal is planning a 10th anniversary edition next year.
Some fans suggested on his View Askew message boards that, in honor of the 10th anniversary of the film they gather at the Eden Prairie, Minn. mall where the movie was filled. In response, Smith posted the following:

"So funny that you mention this, because I just went into Universal yesterday to work out the details of the Mallrats 10th Anniversary Edition DVD. We were talking about doing another ArcLight Screening/Q&A which we'd shoot out here in L.A., but as I was driving home, I was thinking "Maybe we can go to the Eden Prairie Mall and hold the screening/Q&A..."

If it's anything like Clerks X, it'll be a good disc.

I thing they are going to be delayed beacause the 21th movie will only be released in 2006.

Does anyone know the status of the release of the Powell/Pressburger movie "Matter of Life and Death" [aka "Stairway to Heaven"]? Last fall it was listed on this site with a January release. Later it showed up in March. Then "in production". Now it doesn't come up at all. It's already out in a British release, but it won't play on American DVD players.

That title is one of the very reasons I invested $70 in a region-free player.

Has Warner's dropped any hints of a possible double disc of either "Gypsy" or "Auntie Mame?" I'm still holding off on buying those in case something better comes out.

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence just got an R 2 SE release in the U.K. It sounds awesome. Check out DVD Beaver’s review here:

So the big question is will this title finally see a similar re-release here in R 1? If anyone knows, please let me know, or, better yet, add it to the list on the first page.

"Insurrection" Gets DVD Special Treatment

The "Star Trek: Insurrection" Special Collector's Edition DVD will arrive on June 7, 2005.
This two-disc set should greatly enhance fans' viewing experience of the movie, a rousing adventure about the crew of the Enterprise-E defying Starfleet orders in order to defend Federation's principles. The penultimate chapter in the current Star Trek movie portion of the franchise gets a much needed going over for the Special Collector's Edition DVD, one that will surely add some new luster to the film.

Paramount Home Entertainment has just announced the specifications and list of extras for the DVD release and it looks very intriguing, especially if you are a fan of deleted scenes! The extras are extensive and may be the most on a Trek DVD since "Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director's Edition." Featuring seven comprehensive interviews that provide in-depth insights into the making of the movie; seven deleted scenes that expand the original story; the "Creating the Illusion” featurettes that shows things like how to act convincingly in front of a blue/green screen when you're really just interacting with computer-generated elements to be added later. Also, the featurette "Star Trek's Beautiful Alien Women” will showcase the lovely female talent that has graced the the screen over the years.

Disc 1

The movie, presented in widescreen and enhanced for 16:9 TVs. Audio options include: Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, and French Dolby Surround.
Text Commentary by Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda.

Hi, new member here!

Does anyone know if there are plans on a special edition of Bram Stoker's Dracula? The standard edition is now marked down to 9.99 so I'm speculating a re-release soon.

Also, I know it's kind of soon but does anyone know if there are plans for a SE of "Hero?" A great movie but the video transfer of the current release is awful. The visuals are entirely too gorgeous not to warrant a solid HD transfer.

I'm pretty positive that a SE of Bram Stoker's Dracula will be released some time in '06. I have the Criterion laserdisc and it is loaded with featurettes on the costumes, effects, and the like. It also has Coppola commentary.

However, Dracula could receive the same fate as the Criterion Laserdiscs of The Game, The Fisher King, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and others. In that Criterion's lease has run out on those titles and have no immediate plans to release them. They may also own the rights to all of the features on those discs as well. But who knows.

Dark Knight returns on DVD

LAS VEGAS -- On the heels of the theatrical success of "Batman Begins" and the birth of a new bat franchise, Warner Home Video said Tuesday that it will release a series of two-disc special editions of the four original "Batman" movies from the late 1980s and '90s. "Batman," "Batman Returns," "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin" will be released Oct. 18. They will be available individually and as a gift set, "Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology 1989-1997." Each special-edition DVD features a new digital transfer of the movie. Bonus features include director commentaries by Joel Schumacher and Tim Burton, cast and crew interviews, several new documentaries, "making of" featurettes and nine music videos from Prince, Seal and the Smashing Pumpkins. Are there any threads or web sites with details describing how the upcoming releases (the 3rd time) of each James Bond movie is going to differ from the previous Special Edition?

On the first page of this thread for each James Bond movie it projects an October 2005 release date and says:

"All Bond films will be re-released with remastered picture and sound. New documentaries will be added to the discs with exclusive interviews with cast and crew members from the past 42 years, along with rare and unseen footage from the productions."

I couldn't find any preorder details on Amazon or other major retailers. I'd like to know if the remastered picture and sound is worth me spending another large amount of money to upgrade because I didn't think the picture quality of the Special Editions was that bad (although the sound on the early ones could use some help). I don't care about new documentaries enough to upgrade.

It would really help to know which ones I want to upgrade, if any, before they are released, so I can sell the old ones before they are worthless.

Here is some fairly detailed info on the new releases - it's not that recent, but I haven't seen anything more current :

Bond DVD info (http://www.mi6.co.uk/sections/articles/dvd_ultimate_editions.php3?t=&s=)

It says the release date has been pushed back to Q3 OF 2006 to coincide with the theatrical release of Casino Royale .

Also, all the films up to The World is Not Enough will get new HD transfers from 4000 line masters.

Manzana
08-26-05, 11:49 PM
Thanks, NCYankee! I probably would've never found that MI6 site on my own. I haven't been keeping up on Bond movie news, but it sounds like Casino Royale is the next Bond movie and it was planned for late 2005 and got pushed back a full year because they haven't even started filming?!

I guess this news gives me many more months to decide about selling off my Bond SEs. I keep waiting for one of those 10 cent listing days on eBay to do this, but sadly they haven't had one for a long time and may never again.

It sounds like the first page of this thread should be updated for all the Bond films to remove the "10/--/2005?".

4 Deleted/Alternate Scenes
Making Of Ghost World featurette (10 minutes)
Gumnaam Music Video "Jaan Pehechaan Ho"
Trailers for 'The Princess Bride SE', 'The Terminator SE'
Ghost World Soundtrack Promo Spot
Theatrical Trailer

what else you need?!!

oh i'm fine with the version that is out there. i just remember that a rep for mgm told me in 2002 or 2003 that there was a SE on the way. she pointed out that there is a photo on the back from a deleted scene that is not on the dvd, and that it would be on the SE that zwigoff was currently working on. if it doesn't happen, i wouldn't be surprised. just wondering if anyone had any info, because the info actually came from a source at mgm. of course their merger will probably decrease the chances of this happening even more...

The problem is that there was a mixup and instead of Zwigoff working on it, it was Twikoff. That could be why it never came out. :)

what's Universal stance with re-releasing John Woo's Hard Target - with all the grue and violence restored... ?? a definative unrated cut is in much need IMO.

I also thought at one point Fox was going to do a SE of Broken Arrow (with DTS - ? - my OOP DTS laserdisc is utterly unreal and LOUD).

any new news of either.

Don't see it on your list. Looks like it picks up a few of the extras the 1st US version didn't have.

Davisdvd.com:

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has announced The Yards: Director's Cut for release on December 13th. The Mark Wahlberg drama arrives with an anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1, a commentary with director James Gray, a second commentary with director James Gray and Steven Soderbergh, deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes featurette, "Visualising The Yards" featurette, a roundtable discussion (with Charlize Theron, Mark Wahlberg, James Caan and James Gray), original concept art and the trailer. Retail is $19.99.

Is there a website or forum that is dedicated to the re-release of films that are now out with pathetic non-anamorphic versions?

Do people write studios about this or do studios even give info about whether they plan to get anamorphic versions out there.

I think I have about 29 non-anamorphic dvds out of about 500, but they're some of our very favorites. French Kiss, The American President, When A Man Loves A Woman, Beautiful Girls, Grosse Pointe Blank, etc.

With all the double dipping, it makes me frustrated that titles like these don't even get a proper transfer.

While I'd love special editions as much as the next guy, I'd be just fine with 16 x 9 enhanced and 5.1.

Has anyone heard anything about a Back to the Future 4-DVD edition for R1? Apparently there is one for R2, so I'm wondering if it's only a matter of time before we get the double-dip in the US:

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=58852

Unfortunately it was not immediately obvious looking at the extras breakdown if there is much new compared to the 3-DVD edition. For instance, I find it strange that deleted scenes are listed on each movie disc and then again on the 4th disc.

John*D

For the new 4 disc BTTF R2, it's the R1 extras on its very own disc.

Manzana
10-14-05, 04:55 PM
Does that mean the upcoming BTTF R2 4-DVD set has nothing new over the old R1 3-DVD release?

Usually the other regions get better releases than R1, so that would mean the previous R2 BTTF release just had the 3 movies and no extras. That would be surprising. I wonder if moving all of the extras to a 4th disc on the R2 4-DVD set means the 3 movies will get higher bitrates or if they'll just leave a lot of unused space on each movie disc?

Not that I'm going to buy the R2 release, but I did want to make sure the R2 release didn't mean another BTTF "Ultimate Edition" release was coming soon for R1.

I put money on it being the same transfer, but there won't be a lot of unused space on the disc. Remember that both the old and this new R2 release have DTS (same goes for the Region 4). Hence the only way to get these new extras is to use a 4th disc.

I found out that Convoy is being released in widescreen on 10/25/05 by a place called "Music Video Distributors". It shows up on DVD Price Search and Deep Discount DVD now.

I posted a message in the main DVD Talk forum asking if anyone knows any details about this.

I don't know if a different third-party re-release of this movie qualifies it for this list. I didn't see Convoy listed on the first page of this thread, but it must be mentioned somewhere in this long thread (because the search tool showed this thread but sadly it doesn't take you to the page where the match was found).

From my other thread, I was told the 10/25 release of Convoy is just the old release which I was told is not in the proper aspect ratio under a different name. So in effect it's a non-release. Darn. I had wanted to buy this so much, but I'll just have to keep waiting until a real studio releases it properly.

I'm most interested in the Planet of the Apes sequels. It would be nice to have some new materials such as interviews and commentaries from surviving cast and crew members along with extras (outtakes, test footage, production stills etc.) I'd especially love to see the "extended version" of Battle, which includes the scenes of the mutants with their atom bomb and really brings the series full circle. I know it was shown on TNT some years back so I'm sure Fox can find a print of it.

Just to do my share, I've just ordered the Special Edition of Planet of the Apes from DeepDiscount, to help bolster sales and get interest going in the sequels.

Could a 2-disc House of Wax still be in the cards? I'm not 100% sure if this is true or not, but a poster on IMDb reports that the WB has a two-disc SE planned for this summer.

He says to expect:
-At least (not sure yet) 10 deleted scenes.
-The entire Movie Life documentary
-A little neat hour-long thing on Ambrose
-All the other stuff on the 1st disc (except Theatrical Trailer)
-A thing about wax museums featuring a Madame Tussads introduction

I must say, if this is true, bring it on. I just hope that the trailer remains on the 1st disc and if they decide to do another slipcase for the DVD, when you remove the stickers from the DVD that they DON'T peel the artwork off.

That probably means "last chance to buy before these are released in HD." OTOH, there was a sticker like this on the Incredible Adventures of Wallace abd Gromit I bought a couple years back - and I sold that sucka last year for $70. Universal just loves to make titles OOP.

No, walmart always does this right before they are no longer going to carry a title. They only have so much room and they are always cycling there selection. It does not mean that it is going OOP.

I see Hawaii 5-0 is still not on the list despite rumors of its release.

Anyone have any news at all about a dvd of the series?

I'd really like to know as well.

Backdraft: Anniversary Edition is coming out Sept. 12.

What's this about a new Eyes Wide Shut?

I've pretty much lost interest in re-releases so I won't be updating the list anymore.

if you search about, you might be able to find the original threads about it, but apparently it is going to be the unrated international version of the film.

Legolas,

Just wanted to say thanks for taking over the list. I used it a lot before Mikko quit updating it. I've noticed you have already added numerous items. if I come across some I don't see in the list, I'll post here.

I noticed there are many old ones that have already been shipping that can be deleted--to keep the list shorter and more manageable.

One suggestion. Keep them for around 30 days or so after shipping and change them to green when shipping (green is not currently used). This will help people see the ones that are shipping and help you quickly locate older items for deletion.

Thanks again.
