For me I think the answer is yes to all three.

Yes to all. I use the Denon AVR-5800 as a pre-amp hooked up to 4 Bryston 4B-ST amps. DTS-ES Discrete is totally incredible, but what happend to the flow of software? EX/ES seems to have stopped dead in it's tracks with releases.

I think, in this case, the hardware will determine whether or not this format will be supported.
If enough manufacturers incorporate DTS-ES decoding in their receivers or pre-amps/processors, then you could expect to see more software on store shelves.
I currently have not made the jump to 7 discrete channels of sound yet. I'm going to stick with my Denon 5700 until I see more support for DTS-ES.

I agree, but I am not specifically talking about DTS-ES Discrete. I am taling about Dolby Surround EX, DTS-ES Matrix, and Discrete. Things were moving along really well at the start, and now it has completely stalled. I know that we are also in a release dought, and the films that ARE coming out are not really EX/ES worthy, but I'm getting impatient damnit!

The Onkyo 989 does not decode DTS-ES Discrete.

No to all. My current listening room would not be very conducive to an EX/ES set-up due to speaker placement. I may upgrade one day, but as of now there is not a great amount of software specifically desgned for these processes.

Ahhh, but Green Jello, didn't you know that the 989 is upgradeable, and I think I heard recently that they released the software upgrade for ES discrete. I could be wrong since I haven't researched the subject myself, but I think the software upgrade has been released...

You are correct, but I don't think anyone has it yet. I am wasn't saying this to put bluesman down, I just wanted to make sure that he wasn't confused about this.

I think I get to play. I just got a Yahama 5280 for $550 open box at Best Buy. Not discrete center though.
