The DVD player I've got is crap. I knew that when I got it, but I wanted a DVD player and didn't have a lot of money so I bought it anyway (the cheapest one I could find).
I'm ready to buy a new, better DVD player, but I'm still very limited on funds, so I'm looking at the $179-$229 range. What in that price range is good?

For this price range, check out the Pioneer DV-333 (or the new 343) or the Sony s360. Both are great units. The Pioneer will play CDR discs, so if you need that feature look at it first.

if you want to consider the advantages of multi use, i always suggest multidisc players to take the role of both cd player and home theater/DVD. I have a pioneer 3 disc, but would have gone with the toshiba 5 disc if i had known better a year ago. The toshiba has built in DTS/Digital and has all the bells and whistles, plus, with 5 discs, you can load up the cds for parties. You can get the SD3205 for around $299 or the 2 disc SD2150 for around $240. both are great players.

go with the Sony 360. sony is still offering the $50 rebate until the end of the month. I just got one last week. You can't go wrong

I ended up getting the Pioneer DV434. It was an open box piece at $239.96, which was a good price ($60 off). So far I love it (it's handled both of my problem DVDs, and plays CD-r's, and CD Videos as well).
I seriously considered the Sony 360. Looks like a good unit, but I was really happy with my Pioneer Laser Disc player - CDs sounded great played on that unit (better than my previuous CD player sounded) - so I stuck with Pioneer.
I can still take it back if I'm not happy with it, but like I said, so far I love it!
I do appreciate all of the input and advice - it almost makes me wish that I went with the Sony 360. How would you compare the Pioneer 434 to the Sony 360?
