View Full Version : NTSC output from PAL disks on Phillips/Magnavox 825?

Earlier this week I used the remote control codes to convert my Phillips/Magnavox 825 region free but, as I feared, it outputs PAL disks in PAL, and my TV doesn't do the conversion. Anyone know a code to make the player defalut to outputting all disks to NTSC?

The problem is the player would need to have a PAL to NTSC converter built into the chipset, and unfortunately it does not. If you hacked the appropriate service code to output only NTSC (which presumably is allready set anyways) you would still be getting a rolling black and white image. You can hack the Phillips to output a PAL signal for some models, but it is still a pure PAL signal useless on an NTSC display. The only options would be to get a multisystem tv (rare and overpriced for substandard models), an external pal to ntsc converter (gloriously overpriced...why is it that a 70 dollar pc mpeg 2 board can do the same job as a 600 dollar PAL to NTSC converter?), or a player with a built in pal to ntsc converter (apex, raite, etc type players...each with their own bugs for PAL to NTSC conversion it would seem).
