I watch a lot of my dvd's when I am in the bed for the night. At this time I only use my tv for sound, as I do not want to keep the others up. My Sony (DVP-S360) has a push power button to turn it on and off. Anyhow, when I turn it off by remote, it displays "power off", but the red light on the front stays on. Is the power really off and just the red light on? It's just so much easier to hit the power button from the bed, then to get up and push the button so te red light goes off!! ....Especially after being sooooooooooo comfortable for an hour and a half or so. What is going on inside the dvd player when the red light is lit?

I'm a poor college boy who needs this thing to last!!!

Thanks for any input

Yes, the power is off. The player retains a circuit to stay
in standby mode, power consumption is so minimal as to be
almost nonexistant. It will in no way harm or shorten the
life of your player. This also applies to other components
that utilize a standby mode when switched off via remote,
such as receivers.

Tercel_w_Double5, I had the same thoughts as you when I first turned my Sony DVD player off via remote. Then I just figured that HAL was watching over me. BTW, some of thier CD players do this as well.
