Just watched Romper Stomper again and once again laughed out loud at the great final shot (The dead man's view of the beach). It got me wondering about other films with great final shots. The 400 Blows and Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid come to mind, but they are both still frame shots. Anyone have other favorites?

According to the IMDB, the intended final shot was to show the Golden Gate Bridge completely covered in birds, but it was too expensive to pull off. That would've been surreal.

Cruising - did Pacino crack?
Sunset Boulevard - "I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille"
Glory - with the mass grave.
Willard - The head rat watches Bruce Davison's death approvingly.

Also (I believe most of these have been mentioned):

2001
McCabe and Mrs. Miller
Vertigo
E.T.
The Last Temptation of Christ("It is accomplished.")
8 1/2
American Beauty("You may not know what I'm talking about, but believe me...you will.")

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

And, of course, The Graduate

When I saw the title of this thread the only movie that popped in my mind was "Invasion of the body snatchers" (1978). I must have been 11 or 12 years old when I saw it on tv and that last shot of Donald Sutherland stayed in my head a long, long time...

At the risk of being obscure, have anyone seen JSA: Joint Security Area yet? It's a military thriller flick from South Korea. I thought the movie was just okay until the last final shot. It's not a plot twist as in The Usual Suspects but it's just a shot that captures the idea of the whole movie perfectly.

The DVD packaging from CJ Entertainment (here (http://www.dvdasian.com/cgi-bin/dvdasian/12982.html?id=PzRwzugc) ) has the last shot framed on the inside sleeve of the DVD case and it looks awesome. For those who have seen the movie, it captures its essence, but it won't spoil anything for those who hasn't seen it

One of my favorite closing shots combined w/ great music is:

Traffic (as the camera pans from BDT to the baseball game under the lights)

some others mentioned that I agree w/:

About Schmidt (the ending was one of the few parts of the movie that I enjoyed - very touching)

Field of Dreams (I know a lot of people think it's sappy, but as she turns on the lights for Ray and his dad, its just about perfect, particularly combined w/ the music)
