Can people Post pictures of your home theater? I wanna see how people have theres set up. I have the following machines below for my home theater system. Any pictures would be great thanks!

Philips 36 Inch TV
Philips 5 Disc CD Player
Philips 500 Stereo System w/ 6 Speakers & Sub Woofer w/ Built In DVD Player
Philips Duel Disc CD Burner
Philips 4 Head Hi Fi VCR

I was wondering if they made 5 or 6 foot Floor Speakers of Philips I see sony floor speakers all the time but still havent found a Philips speaker this size.

I like Philips the best if you have something a sony tv philips dvd player aiwa setero the sound dont sound right it sounds better if there all the same brand. And I just felt Philips is better than sony. !! Thanks and any pictures will help I'm getting ready to re do my basement and thats were my living / theater room is thanks!

You can see pics of my set-up on my website link below...

"Philips is better than Sony"?? : OUCH! I don't agree with that myself and I'm sure you'll get opinions from others on that. But hey, if it makes you happy, that's what counts....

As for having all the same brand of stuff makes the system sound better:

Sure it can make life easier because one remote control can control the whole system, but saying it all sounds better because you have the same brand TV as your stereo etc.is stretching it a bit (IMHO). There are MANY people who own many different brands of equipment (myself included) in their Home Theater set-up and their systems sound awesome.

I would seriously think about shopping for speakers other than Philips (They don't make speakers other than for their boom boxes and Home Theaters in a box I believe). You can find much better sounding stuff out their at a fairly decent price. Just shop around town and listen to as many speakers as you can, and when you find one you like, buy them and try them in your home set-up, and if you don't like the way they sound, take them back and try your second choice.

Like I said before, the key is that you enjoy what you have and that's what counts....

Good luck!
Alfer

My home theater pictures are in my sig. They don't compare to the stuff you guys have, but I think I did pretty good on a college student budget and a dorm room.

While I am no HT expert I have to disagree with the fact that if everything you own is the same brand it will sound better. As has been mentioned already it may be easier to setup and control but the fact is that different brands specialize in different components and if you want the best sound/video then typically you are going to have different brands in your setup. And BTW, Philips is definitely not one of the best brands out there, if anything it is at the lower end of the scale quality wise. But I guess if you are satisfied with your setup that is fine.

palebluedot,

Nice HT!

Were you afraid of setting down your Denon onto your rack the very first time? :p
I know I was.
The amps in that thing weigh a ton. But the result is music to my ears.

I'm sure your system rocks!

BartleyR7,

Nice set up. Looks good.

Just a suggestion.....
Try putting your components rack and DVD rack next to your TV. Then, put the tower speakers on the ends.
The result is, you get better separation of the left and right soundfield. Your center channel will fill the gap in between. Now, when you play a movie in 5.1 you'll have a much larger sounding front stage.

Also, if your tower speakers have a powered subwoofer, placing them closer to the corners of the room will increase bass.

I've got Infinity Reference RS-8 towers and they sound so much deeper in the corner.

Cloud is right. Having all your equipment the same brand is really not the best idea, for optimal home theater/audio performance. Look at it this way. If a company is building TVs, receivers, speakers, VCRs, DVD players, and everything else under the sun, then their R&D dollars are spread all over the place. If a speaker mfg. for example, is ONLY making speakers, all of their R&D is put into producing the best sounding speakers - period. I would NEVER buy speakers from a mfg. that produced anything but speakers (well an exception could be made for Meridian digital speakers, Krell ($40K), or maybe McIntosh or something - but those are mega thousand $ speakers). Buying specialized equipment from companies who are known for their expertise in that discipline will get you the most for your money.

I have had many people tell me to do this. I have a question, though. The reason I placed the speakers as I have them now is because I read in a couple places that your surround speakers should be outside of your fronts. By this I mean that your surrounds should be placed farther apart than your fronts.

Is their any truth to this at all? If there isn't, I will most certainly switch the set-up to yield the larger sound field.

Thanks!

Finally, someone else with Tannoys. Whenever I mention the name to people (including some professed audiophiles), they look at me funny. -confused-

To me, the best speakers I have ever heard and I have demoed them side by side with countless other speakers. Total flat response. If you want to hear music how it sounded in the studio as it was recorded these are the speakers for it.

MY HT
Well, here it is, finally! I couldn't wait to show it and now I can:

my drug is in my signature...viewing pleasure

The story about it is as follows. When I married my wife a bit over 3 years ago we had a fairly large wedding (400 people or so). As you can imagine we received a modest sum of money. With that money she let me put this together (2 upgrades have been made and are shown in picture). She didn't even hastle me about it...forget the sofa, forget the china...she let me have a new hobbie. I am a lucky man. Here is what I got:

Picture: Panasonic Tau CT-36HX41 (my second upgrade)

AV Receiver: Integra DTR-5.1 (my next upgrade)

DVD Player: Integra DPS-5.2 (my first upgrade from a pioneer...dont remember which)

Speakers: Atlantic Technology System 170 (i love these. they blow the sock off all my friends, wife, myself, and probably the neighbors. i dont see a reason to upgrade these yet. not until i build a real theater!)

Thanks for looking...It's fun to show.

Ciao

Tannoy makes some good stuff.

On the Phillips thing - Phillips USA/North America isn't exactly the first name in electronics ... however Phillips Europe is entirely a different matter. In NA Phillips settled on the "mid-fi" for a long time. They saved their nice stuff for Europe.

Does anyone know that Phillips used to (and probably still does) has the monopoly on the super-high end platter/drive mechanisms that are used in super expensive transports? We're talking 8-20k and up.
