I can't comment on the DVD, but the movie itself is great, one of the best horror films ever, in my opinion. However, I have known people who didn't like it (though I can't imagine why), so you may want to rent first.

I love this film. The DVD is nothing great, although better than average. It includes a Trailer, Featurette, Production Notes. As for the picture and sound, I can't really comment as my HT is not ideal, it does have an anamorphic transfer though.

A very good effort from one of the best modern directors, Alan Parker.

DeNiro and Rourke - you'll probably never see that combination again. By the way, you are referring to the american film, not the 1995 hong kong flick, right?

just in case someone is intersted:

Angel Heart has just been released as a SE over here in Europe.
It containes ( I think a new) anamorphic PAL Transfer, a making of (possibly the same as on the RC1) AND a commentary with dir. Alan Parker.

If you get the Limited UK DVD, you will also get a 60 page( I think there are 60pages, but donīt quote me ...) Booklet including a detailed "Filming-diary" by Alan Parker.

NOTE: This is Region 2 and PAL, so if you cannot play neither of these, forget it.
But if you have a multi-region set and a TV /(PC) capable of displaying PAL, this might be interesting for you!

You will find a review of this DVD here:

One thing that's kept me from buying this DVD, and that I'm wondering about, is that the DVD package says it's rated R. I specifically remember renting the unrated version of this film. In the case of the DVD, is there anything edited from the film, or is the same as the unrated VHS?

Yes, this IS a cut version. My LD was uncut. When watching this however, I didn't notice any changes(during the mickey rourke/lisa bonet sex scene. It is probably only a few shots of mickey rourke's ass.

I thought that generally the picture on the DVD is excellent. It's not what I'd call colorful but it wasn't shot to be that way. I'd have preferred the audio to be at least 4.0 but is only 2.0 and I'd say that it's moderate!

This is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. Right up there with The Exorcist and Silence of the Lambs in the "think twice before you walk to the door to lock it for the night" genre. Very disturbing, and very well done.

I don't have the DVD, however, because it is relatively bare bones, and I am holding out for something better than that.

Review Wanted: Angel Heart

I used to have this movie on VHS (before I threw all of my VHS where they belong). I loved the movie (haven't seen it in a long time). Is the DVD worth it?

I used to own the dvd. I love the move, but as I recall, there were not a lot of extra features on the dvd. Still worth it to see the "bloody bed" scene in crystal clear dvd form.

I love the movie also and Dizmack is right, its a bare bones affair. The picture quality is very nice and in widescreen. The sound is nice as well for a 2.0 Dolby. ( I don't have surround sound, yet) All in All its a very good upgrade from your VHS and I found the movie for $10...

FYI, I merged your thread with an old one to keep everything together, and to let you see more replies to your question.

Great movie! One might even say that
Spoiler:
The Sixth Sense may have ripped it off a bit.
