This isn't a full review since I just watched a friend's French disc thru a PC monitor. The video quality was brilliant. Truly as good as any Hollywood disc. No English subtitles, unfortunately. Good sound from what I could tell via headphones.
Now for the movie itself, it's just the first movie with slightly better car chases. Those expecting an awesome action film (as the trailer would have you believe: http://www.besson.qc.ca/fr/taxi2.htm ) will be sorely disappointed. There is far more emphasis on comedy and creating a 'cool' French hip-hop atmosphere than there is at creating tension or excitement. You wouldn't consider Blues Brothers, despite its huge car chase, an action movie, would you? Well, Taxi 1 & 2 are like that.
Actually, one improvement is that the chases in Taxi 2 are more coherent and exciting. In part 1, the big chase was more like some nicely shot driving scenes randomly put to French rap music. In the sequel, there's more of a sense of the chases building to something. But bottomline is that they are lighthearted buddy comedies with dashes of goofy action.
Region 1 people should not import these discs hoping for the next Luc Besson epic (he produced & wrote only by the way). However, if you are a fan, Taxi 2 is an excellent disc.
A region 3 but NTSC DVD of the first Taxi movie can be found at http://www.dddhouse.com in their Western section.

Re: Luc Besson's Taxi 2 - Disappointing movie, good disc
a little late here (9 years behind), but I finally just watched this film. I bought the UK PAL Anamorphic, DD 5.1 French, English subtitled DVD for 5 bucks used a couple months ago. I just got around to watching it since I was in the mood. Earlier in the day, I had watched Besson's TRANSPORTER 3, so I was still in the mood for a car movie.
TAXI 2 is definitely the best of the four films. It's really funny, awesome action, and just moves along at a good pace. The DVD is of excellent quality as well. It didn't have any of that weird horizontal interlacing as reported on other DVD versions of this film. I highly recommend it if no one has seen it yet. You don't have to see the first one to enjoy this one.
I'm sure TAXI 2 is a lot better than this week's THE FAST AND THE BI-CURIOUS (SNL joke trailer) anyway....
