I never saw this in theaters and was wondering what you opinion of this movie was.
I love "Hunt for Red October" & "Crimson Tide" how does it compare to these 2 movies?
Thanks

Not a bad movie, but really nothing new. You're much better off with "Das Boot" or the two movies mentioned in the first post.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's pure entertainment but most importantly, the surround effects were awesome! (at least where I watched it--hope the DVD will be as good). Less than half way through the movie, I told my wife we would definitely be getting this one on DVD, it should really give your LFE a pretty good workout. However, I've just finished watching Das Boot, and U-571 is virtually identical, but still worth watching IMO.

I really liked the movie -- pure fun plus the sound was awesome at the theatre. Felt the vibrations clear through my body. Even my friend who really hates action flics actually liked it...

It was ok, the movie was nowhere as good as Das Boot or Crimson Tide. The musical score was a lot weaker than those movies. Plus, I always laugh when subs go below their maximum safe depth, bolts burst spraying water everywhere, but when they go higher up the water suddenly stops. OK, physics just went out the window, or the porthole in this case!

WOW! Does U-571 have great DTS sound or what! I put it on last night and boy did all hell break loose. My kids can sure sleep soundly considering the racket going on below them in my home theater.
The depth charges scenes really rock your sub and give the entire system a workout.
This is not a bad movie, full of tension and great special effects.
Definetly a must pick up at a low price.
Got mine last week at CC for $14.99

I think U571 is the perfect example of what DVD should be
The movie itself I thought was good, watchable and rewatchable. Decent story and good acting
The picture quality was excelent, and the sound was just over the top with DTS. I never watched the Dolby Digital version though..
but between the movie itself, image quality, sound, good animated menus and LOTS of extra features, this is a great one to have for when mom comes over and says "what the hell is a DVD and why do you have 100 of em?!"
edit:
I removed the spoliery thing that was in there.. sorry

Ok movie. Some good action, but the story was weak. They're getting totally depth charged, here's an idea - trying turning to the side once or twice!! Ever hear of EVASIVE?? No, let's just sit here and take it.

Though not as great as Das Boot, U-571 is still a pretty good war movie. Good acting. Impressive action sequences. The story was decent but could of been alot better. Overall, I give this movie a B/B-.

Although I cannot comment on the DVD I saw it in the theaters. I was not really impressed with it. The plot/story line was weak. The acting was ok at best and including John Bon Jovi was a big mistake. Overall a boring film with it's only saviour being the dept charge scene. Luckily I saw it using a free ticket and did not have to pay for it.

[SPOILERS]
An ok flick. I hate Bill Paxton but thankfully he croaked early enough. Also a waste of harvey Keitel's talent. And how the heck can you sink a destroyer with one torpedo? Despite the plot holes and mediocre acting, I found it mostly entertaining because it had the feel of an old war movie.
As others have suggested, try Das Boot or even Run Silent Run Deep for better sub films.

I enjoyed this movie from beginning to end.
Some movies start off slow, but not U-571.
There was a lot of intensity throughout this film; you couldn't tell what was going to happen next.
I agree they should have left Bon Jovi off this movie. A rock star as an officer in a sub.
As for me, I don't know what Bon Jovi looks like so it didn't affect my perception of his character in the film.
Overall, I think it's a great movie for action. It's weak in the historical accuracy dept. but you have to give it a Hollywood touch some how.

FIRST movie I've ever fallen asleep during! I hated it. It was missing that "thing" that pulls you into the story. Hell, even Bad Boys "pulled" me in and that was technically a terrible movie (though really entertaining).
Flat out didn't like it.
